Phoebe was a first-century Christian deacon mentioned by the Apostle Paul in his Epistle to the Romans. A notable woman in the church of Cenchreae, she is widely revered as the first recorded woman deacon in early Christian history and the trusted emissary who carried Paul's letter to the Romans. , ,

Eternal God, who raised up Phoebe as a deacon in your church and minister of your Gospel; Grant us that same grace that, assisted by her prayers and example, we too may take the Gospel to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Today on Women's Equality Day, we honor the trailblazers who fought for the ratification of the 19th Amendment and paved the way. But honoring history means continuing the work. Let's keep pushing for true equity, equal pay, and representation for all women!

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Marsha P. Johnson (1945–1992), a pioneering Black transgender activist, performer, and organizer, who helped spark the modern LGBTQ+ liberation movement. Marsha understood that true freedom is empty if it leaves the most vulnerable behind. Later in life, she also dedicated herself to HIV/AIDS activism and community caretaking. Let’s honor her by continuing to fight for a future where our trans siblings can live with safety, dignity, and joy.

Born on this day in 1820, Florence Nightingale revolutionized healthcare during the Crimean War by proving a simple truth: clean hands, fresh air, and sanitation save lives. She slashed hospital death rates by two-thirds and went on to become a pioneering statistician and the founder of modern professional nursing. Today, we honor her legacy and say thank you to all the nurses and healthcare heroes carrying her torch forward every single day!

O God, who gave grace to your servant Florence Nightingale to bear your healing love into the shadow of death: Grant to all who heal the same virtues of patience, mercy, and steadfast love, that your saving health may be revealed to all; through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
