First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Rochester, Michigan Vision Statement: Christ, Compassion, and Community build our Church Worship services are typically Sunday mornings at 10AM!

First Congregational Church, Rochester, is an Open and Affirming local church of the United Church of Christ (not to be confused with Church of Christ, or Church of God in Christ, or Church of God...phew... there's A LOT of Christian denominations out there!) We are a "still speaking" church, believing that God, through our pastors and through careful exegesis of scripture, still speaks to us in o

ur contemporary times - that our 2000 year old Bible is not translated by 2000 year old thinking. Our philosophy is love for all and being a compassionate, Christ-centered, community church. Child care is provided along with an optional "cry room," and children are always welcome to remain in worship!

🎢 River Strings of St. Clair County were in the house!

What a night! Saturday evening, the Sanctuary came alive as 100 guests were treated to the toe-tapping, heartwarming sounds of the River Strings of St. Clair County dulcimer group. The concert's program was eclectic, with a playlist of pop, Irish, Tin Pan Alley and old time gospel tunes. The music was magical, and included Isle of Innisfree, My Old Kentucky Home, Ain't She Sweet, Moon River and the Great Lakes Song.

🎚️ Huge shoutout to our amazing sound booth crew, who kept everything running smoothly and sounding great all night long. Your behind-the-scenes work made a big difference!

The free-will offering collected during the concert will benefit Kids Empowered on the Move, a nonprofit organization providing emergency housing support for families in Oakland County. Thank YOU to all who donated.

🎻 Huge thanks to the River Strings for an unforgettable evening of music, memories, and community. We can't wait to welcome you back again soon!

πŸ’Š Community in Action!

Our small groups have been hard at work β€” washing, drying, and sorting empty pill bottles to donate to those in need. Two weeks ago, we reached a milestone: 300 bottles donated! πŸŽ‰

Sue Barnes generously takes these to Matthew 25 Ministries in Blue Ash, Ohio. On her recent trip, when one of the volunteers picked them up, he noticed they were already cleaned and sorted. He said, "I'm taking these up to the office β€” these will actually be used because they are sorted." When we told him our small groups had washed, dried, and sorted every single one, his response was simple: "Thank you very much."

THIS is a great reminder that small acts of service β€” done with care and intention β€” make a real difference. We are so proud of our church family for showing up and giving back! πŸ™ Matthew 25 Ministries

First Congregational Church is excited to host a concert by a local mountain dulcimer group, the River Strings of St. Clair County, on Saturday, June 6, at 7 p.m.

The concert's program is eclectic, with a playlist of pop, Irish, Tin Pan Alley, old time, gospel and Stephen Foster tunes. Some of highlights include "Isle of Innisfree," popular Irish song, "Ashokan Farewell," which Ken Burns popularized with his Civil War documentary series, and a wonderful arrangement of Stephen Foster's "My Old Kentucky Home.”

The concert is free – freewill offerings will be collected during intermission and after the concert to support the church’s music program. Join us for a delicious dessert afterglow.
