The Diocese of Winona-Rochester Social Concerns Committee,
along with Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota,
invite you to our Fall Social Concerns Day.
Restorative Justice: Healing the Harm
Saturday, October 16th
9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Join us via Zoom!
Join us as we listen to featured guests, Fr. Larry Dowling and Martine Haglund, speak about Restorative Justice, a way of understanding crime and wrongdoing in terms of the people and relationships impacted, rather than the law or rule that was broken. Learn how restorative practices seek to repair harm through transformative encounters that model Jesus’ reconciling way.
The event is free, but registration is REQUIRED!
To register, email Lisa Kremer at [email protected]
Rev. Larry Dowling, M.Div., D.Min. is the pastor of St. Agatha Parish in Chicago’s North Lawndale community. He is actively involved in local community organizing efforts, criminal justice reform, restorative justice projects and anti-violence issues.
Fr. Dowling will offer insights on the power of Restorative Justice through the lens of Scripture, Catholic spirituality and social teaching. He will share the lived experience of using Restorative Justice for community building, for conflict resolution, RJ's use in the court system, and its practical use in the context of family, parish and community life.
Martine Haglund is the Assistant Principal at Century High School in Rochester, MN. She is also a Restorative Practices Trainer with the International Institute for Restorative Practices. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Martine immigrated to Rochester to attend college.
In Martine’s session, we will reflect on how restorative justice reshapes mindsets and routines and creates healing communities. The session will use a circle format to conduct meaningful conversations from the perspective and experiences of the oppressed, vulnerable, and marginalized in our society.
