Most, but not all, of the volunteers who make our food pantry work gathered this morning to take a picture by our sign. There is a lot of hard work that goes into making our pantry a success; not just on the days that it is open, but the other days of the week as well. Many of our volunteers are members of our church, but a number of them are not. They are friends who heard about us and believe in our mission. A big thank you to all of those who make our pantry a reality.

The First Parish team made another wonderful meal at the Rochester Fellowship Kitchen again tonight! We made sweet and sour pork over rice, green beans, bread and butter and desserts. Of course, we made two huge salads-one green and one fruit-from the incredible donations from Hannaford. I can't stress enough how hard working our team is, and how much I appreciate the Rochester Fellowship friends who put in so much hard work to help. We served 65 meals in-house and 25 take out meals. Every bit of food was gone at the end of the night and lots of tummies were filled!

It was a hot, sticky day for our Blueberry Fest; but, we all had a fantastic time! So many of our church family took part, whether it was making pancakes for our breakfast, selling Previously Loved Art, selling used furniture, making baked goods to be sold, selling themed baskets or selling raffle tickets. Thanks to all those who took part and to our wonderful guests who made this a successful fundraiser!

This past Saturday was Pride Day in Rochester and it was a blast! First Church had a table with face painting, bracelet making and lots of fun things to do. We also had information about the Trans Support Group that meets at our church the last Saturday of each month, led by church member, Corey. We also had information about our Open and Affirming congregation. It was a very hot summer day, but so worth spending time outside meeting so many members of our community!

Our team from First Church served a wonderful dinner at the Rochester Soup Kitchen on Thursday afternoon. The meal included garlic butter steak bites, orange glazed carrots and mashed potatoes-all from scratch! Of course, the kitchen was the recipient of such generous donations from Hannaford so we were able to make two bowls of fruit salad and two of green salad and give out yummy desserts. I was so busy that I didn't get many pictures...here is what I have. Much thanks to all of the hard working volunteers on our team!

As noted in a previous post, the First Church Food Pantry has seen a large increase in the people we serve. The statistics we save show this. To help us financially, there will be a yard sale at Sharon Reed-Erickson's and Mike Tunstall's home at 11 Fairway Drive in Rochester this Saturday, with proceeds going to our food pantry. Thank you so much, Sharon and Mike.

The number of people coming to the doors of the food pantry and clothes closet at our church last month and this month has grown incredibly. It is hard for us to keep our shelves stocked so that we can help feed those in need in our community. If you could help us financially or with food or clothes donations, it would be greatly appreciated by our guests and our volunteers! You can drop off donations at our First Church Congregational, next to the library, on Monday through Friday from 9:00-1:00. Someone will be in the office to receive them at those times.

* Summer clothing is greatly needed-shorts, t-shirts, socks, etc. would be so appreciated!

Another great meal was prepared and served today by the amazing team from First Church and some friends from Rochester Fellowship Kitchen. We served some yummy ham and pineapple, macaroni salad, green salad, fruit salad and bread and butter. Of course, there were delicious desserts donated by Hannaford! It was lots of work, but so much fun. Thanks to everyone who showed up to volunteer!
