What happens when a society rejects God? Romans 1–2 gives a sobering answer: we exchange truth for lies, worship creation rather than the Creator, and convince ourselves that we're not as bad as others.

But whether religious or rebellious, the verdict is the same—we all stand guilty before God.

The good news? Salvation isn't earned… It's freely given.

And that's exactly what makes it so hard to believe.

As we are in Holy Week, we ponder the events of the last week of Jesus' earthly ministry, culminating in the cross and the resurrection. During Holy Week, we don't just see the suffering of Jesus; we see the ugly condition of the human heart in full display. Betrayal, denial, injustice, mockery, and violence all collide at the cross, revealing humanity's depravity. Yet in that very moment, Jesus responds not with judgment, but with patience, humility, and sacrificial love.
In this morning's chapel message, pastor Chris walks through the events leading to the crucifixion, contrasting the ugliness of humanity with the perfect goodness of Christ. As the crowd chooses Barabbas over Jesus, we are confronted with a sobering truth: we are more like the crowd than we think.
But the good news is this—Jesus willingly took our place.

In this sermon, pastor Chris explores one of the most important and often misunderstood truths in the Bible, the holiness of God. Jesus taught that the first priority in prayer should be, "Father, hallowed be your name." But what does it mean for God's name to be regarded as holy, and why does it matter for our lives?
Looking at passages from Matthew, Luke, Numbers, and Romans, this message explains how humanity's fundamental problem is not that people deny God's existence, but that they fail to recognize His holiness. From Moses striking the rock to the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, Scripture shows that God never compromises His holiness—even when dealing with those closest to Him.
Yet the same holiness that exposes our sin also reveals the beauty of the gospel: God did not spare His own Son so that sinners could be forgiven.
This sermon challenges believers to rethink their priorities in prayer, deepen their understanding of God's character, and pursue the holy life God calls His people to live.

This last Lord's Day, Randy shared his journey from decades of addiction, crime, and repeated prison sentences to genuine transformation through Christ. His story is one of mercy, repentance, and the unexpected joy God produces even in the darkest places—No one is beyond redemption.
Following the testimony, Pastor Chris preached a message centered on God's own joy. Drawing from Psalms, Zephaniah, and Luke 15, he challenged the common image of God as primarily angry or disappointed, showing instead that Scripture presents God as one who rejoices—especially when sinners repent and are restored. True Christian joy begins not with our feelings, but with understanding God's own joyful disposition toward redeemed people. When sinners return, heaven rejoices!

This month at Church of Grace, we've set aside time during our worship service to hear testimonies from church members about how they came to faith in Christ. This morning, Rose shared her testimony of growing up with religious familiarity but spiritual emptiness, shaped by family dysfunction and early alcohol exposure. Through years of substance abuse, broken relationships, shame, and spiritual confusion, she drifted further from peace and purpose. After reaching a breaking point — marked by the pain of her daughter's rejection and the weight of her own sin — Rose finally surrendered fully to God in 2015. Through repentance, perseverance in the Word, and the guidance of faithful Christians, she experienced true transformation in Christ. Today, she walks in sobriety, growing obedience, and gratitude, testifying to the renewing grace of Jesus and the peace that comes from belonging to Him. After her testimony, Pastor Chris explains the true meaning of biblical peace in light of Advent and the Gospel. Drawing from Luke 2 and Hebrews 11, the message teaches that real peace is not found in external comfort but in reconciliation with God. He explains that Scripture does not present salvation as escape from the world, but as the renewal of creation and the restoration of God's dwelling with His people. Like Abraham and the saints of old, believers are called to live as strangers in this fallen age while ordering their lives toward God's coming Kingdom. The message challenges Christians to live with intentional faith, glorify God in their daily work, and demonstrate their heavenly hope through holy conduct, grateful stewardship, and faithful perseverance as they await the renewed earth Christ has promised.

Parents, ask yourselves, "Where do I need to humble myself before God so that my heart, like Mary’s, can truly magnify the Lord this Advent?"

Children, ask yourselves, "How can I show a humble heart like Mary did when she trusted God and praised Him?"

The sermon focuses on the theological truth that salvation is not defined by ethnic lineage but by faith in Jesus Christ, the promised offspring of Abraham, who fulfills God's redemptive plan for all nations. Drawing from John 8, it emphasizes that true discipleship is marked by remaining in Christ's word, which leads to knowing the truth that sets people free from the bo***ge of sin—contrary to the religious leaders' self-righteous claim of being descendants of Abraham.

The message unfolds the biblical narrative, starting from God's original purpose for creation, which was to dwell with humanity, through the fall that disrupted all relationships, to the ultimate restoration in the new creation where believers will reign with Christ on a renewed earth. It critiques a narrow gospel that focuses solely on individual forgiveness and a heavenly destination. Instead, it affirms that the fullness of salvation includes the resurrection of the body, the renewal of creation, and the eternal reign of Christ, culminating in the vision in Revelation of God dwelling with His people.

The tone is both pastoral and prophetic, calling believers to embrace a holistic, eschatological hope rooted in Scripture.
