After many years of searching, the original Sights Cemetery was located near Robards through joint research by Jon Sights and Kim Goetz both being descendants of David and Margaret (Sellers) Sights who are interred here. There are Sights, Denton, Durbin, Green, McClarney, Overfield and Sheffer families laid to rest in this peaceful place. There are also many children buried here; including several sons and daughters of George Albert Sights. Volunteers have worked tirelessly removing brush and debris. Many of the tombstones have been cleaned and reset, including several discovered after a huge pile of debris was removed (see photo #2 below. The tops of the stones are barely visible. Partial funds were donated by the descendants to have a huge dead tree removed, as there was a danger of it falling on those tombstones in its path! (see below, tree is in the background). The total cost of the tree removal was $1600.00. The photo #1 below shows the thick vegetation and the dead tree.
The photo below was taken the day the reconstruction project began note the dead tree, (top left below).
The cemetery is located on the property of the Aldersons, who have granted a permanent easement to the descendants of those interred here, which is on file with the county clerk.
Below are photos of the new gravel access road leading to the cemetery, which is accessible from 1217/Pruitt Agnew Road near Robards. Visitors are able to drive right up to the cemetery. There is ample parking at the top of the drive. photo #3 below
Mr. Billy Asher did an amazing job, donating his time, equipment and materials to clear the trees and grade the access road. We are so grateful for Billy’s hard work to complete this project! A site map indicating the cemetery’s location is photo #4 below.
Below is beautiful photo take from the rear view of the tombstones this past Easter Weekend, 2021: photo #5 and #6.
A Sights Cemetery account has been set up for future projects and general upkeep at the Field and Main Bank in Henderson. Future projects include a sign for the cemetery, as well as additional cleaning of the remaining headstones. Should anyone care to donate, please contact the bank directly.
If you are interested in volunteering to help maintain this cemetery, please send us a message on our page.
We are so grateful to the 10 families who donated to this project to date. Thank you so much for your generosity!
