Shepherd's Household Inc

Shepherd's Household Inc Our mission is to reach troubled, lost, and hurting children with the Gospel of Christ in a loving Christ-centered home and school.

We offer a loving Christian home for children to learn about the Lord and the wonderful world He has given us. We teach more than just school - we teach about life. We help the boys take responsibility for themselves and their actions. We teach them to admit their mistakes and to learn from them. We encourage them to explore new horizons and to keep trying. We show them they are a person of worth.

The children who come to our school receive an educational plan tailored to meet their specific needs with lots of one-on-one instruction from dedicated, loving teachers. We teach them reading, writing, arithmetic, science, history, and the Bible. We teach them how God made a world that all fits together. We use the Switched-on Schoolhouse curriculum which is based on the King James Bible and incorporates basic Bible teachings in all areas of study. Most importantly, we teach the boys that God loves them and sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross for their sins. We teach them that a personal relationship with the Lord and asking Him to be their Savior is the most important decision they will ever make. We are Joseph and Lisa Strickland. We have been married for over 25 years. We love the Lord with all our hearts and we count it a great honor to serve Him. The Lord has been good to us through the years and He blesses us daily. Even in the tough times, God has blessed us by bringing us closer to Him and by proving His faithfulness so many times. We have tried to teach our own children and the boys who come to live with us that God is always good and He blesses obedience to Him. Does that mean life is always wonderful? No, but God always brings good from the trials and the mistakes we make. How can we not love a Savior who is always working things for our good? God blessed us with two boys of our own Trey and Lane. He has also blessed us with the opportunity to share in the lives of many more boys who come to live with us here at The Shepherd's Household. Trey, our oldest son, is married to a wonderful young lady named Katie and they live in Thomasville, NC. Lane, our younger son, is sixteen and he still lives here with us. We are amazed that God trusted us to raise our two sons and to have a part in the lives of so many other young men. Trey and Katie gave us our grandchildren Hunter (3 years old) and Savannah (1 year old).

It is with deep sadness that I announce I am closing Shepherd’s Household. I have finished earlier than planned with the boys I had left. I will officially close on December31 but of course I will still have work to do to close everything out. I will send out tax statements in January as soon as I can.

I will continue to live here at the home for 6 more months to close everything down and dispose of the home’s things and a lot of Joey’s things that I cannot keep. I am uncertain where I will be living or where I will get a job, but I am trusting the Lord to lead me in the direction he wants me to take. I would appreciate your prayers as I begin a future without Joey or the boys. My heart is so sad to see this chapter close but I know the Lord doesn’t make mistakes.

I wanted to let everyone know that all the dogs have been placed in good loving homes. I earnestly prayed for the Lord to help me find each dog the right home for them. I believe he answered this prayer because each dog found a loving family. I want to thank everyone who shared my post or let others know about the dogs. Several new owners have sent me pictures of their dog. I will share these here.

For anyone interested in the German Shepherds, I have three left:

Donner, 2 year old male - black and tan
Annika, 2 year old female - black and tan
Starr, 6 year old female -black and silver. ( I had listed her younger before but I checked her papers and found she was older than I thought)

Starr is Donner’s mother but Annika and Donner have separate bloodlines if anyone is interested in breeding some. They are all AKC registered and I have their paperwork to give to new owners.

I really need to have these dogs placed by May 11th. If I cannot find them a home, I am going to have to take them to the pound or the humane society. I really don’t want to do this but I am going to be gone for a week in the near future and I have no one who can feed and water them while I am gone.

I would like to offer some updates on the home. I am still working with the two young men we have left. They are doing well and looking to the future when they finish high school. We have been busy keeping things running here at the home and on the farm.

I have sold all the animals except Joey’s German Shepherds. I have six available. 3 males and 3 females. They range in age from 1 to 5 years old. I will gladly give them to people who would give them a good home. They are all AKC registered and would make great pets. Joey bred them but I can’t handle all of that and the home as well. Here is information about each.

1. Schafer is a black and tan male. He is around 4 years old. He has fathered at least 3 litters.

2. Starr is a black and silver female. She is about 5 years old. She is a great mother and has had 2 litters for us.

3. Lacy is a solid black female. She is 2 years old. She has never been bred but she is very gentle and sweet. She was abused by her previous owner.

4. Donner is a black and tan male. He is 2 years old.

5. Annika is a black and tan female. She is not quite 2 years old. She can be hyper but calms down after you let her run a little bit.

6. Bingo is a black and tan male. He is 1 year and 5 months. He is a very sweet and gentle dog. He belonged to our grandsons (4 and 5 years old). They got a new inside dog and just don’t give him the attention he needs. They also live by a very busy road so they can’t let him out to run and play.

I wanted to thank everyone for the calls, prayers, donations, and food that have been sent to us during this difficult time. We are very sad without Joey and it is hard to face each day without him. However, God’s grace and peace have helped us to keep going.

I will be continuing to run the home untilI I finish with the boys that are here. I will not be taking any new boys as it would be hard to do without a man in the house. Through much prayer and advice from the Board of Directors, I believe God would be pleased for me to finish the work Joey and I started with these boys. I hope our supporters will continue to help until the boys are through here. After that, if the Lord has not sent a couple to continue the work, I will close Shepherd’s Household down.

I will be making a few changes to make things easier for myself and the boys who are left. I would like to sell the cows, the chickens, and the miniature horse. I am not able to do all the work needed to keep the fences and farm running well. I also want to sell Joey’s AKC registered German Shepherds. He has 2 males and 4 females. If anyone Is interested in any of these animals, please contact me.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers. They are helping us to make it day by day!

It is with a heavy heart that I tell everyone that Joey Strickland passed away in his sleep this morning. We will keep you informed of arrangements. We will also keep everyone informed as to what we will be doing in the future as well. Please pray for us and the boys. They are taking it really hard because Joey has been a father to them.

We just received a text from someone who had been told we were closed down. We did reduce our number of boys for the last six months because of Joey’s health issues. He had to begin dialysis and we had to do several months of training in order to do hemodialysis at home. In the middle of all this, I had a heart attack and then had to have 4 bypass surgery. However, we have NEVER CLOSED. We have started taking applications again and we hope to get back to a new normal soon. I will be sending out a newsletter in the next few weeks as I am slowly getting back my strength. We currently have3 boys and applications out for 2 more. Just pray for us!
