"Mother Teresa of Calcutta is one of the most well-known humanitarians in modern history. It’s due to her selfless devotion to serving the poor that September 5th was chosen as International Day of Charity. It was on this day in 1997 that Mother Teresa passed away at the age of 87. In 2011, the Hungarian Parliament chose to commemorate the anniversary of her death by making it a national holiday for their country. In 2012, the UN General Assembly resolved to make the Hungarian holiday an International one."
WIth the recent passing of Dolly Parton, we are reminded of how powerful giving can be. People from all different backgrounds & beliefs have united in paying tribute to her. This is all due to her amazing phlanthropic heart.
For International Day of Charity, take time to look for ways to love like Dolly!

It's National Forgiveness Day!
Forgiveness & Peace go hand & hand. There's a reason you rarely find one without the other. Unforgiveness keeps a wound open, and an open wound never stops aching. Peace can't take root in soil that's still being disturbed by resentment. Scripture treats forgiveness and peace almost like two sides of the same coin — you can't hold one without the other coming along.
On National Forgiveness Day, take time to thank God for the power of forgivenenss in our lives and the peace that it brings us.

Join us in person this Sunday for breakfast Church!
Join us in the fellowship hall at 10:00 am on Sunday, August 30 for breakfast and fellowship. We will remain in the fellowship hall for worship at 10:30. This will be a special time of celebrating all that God has done in and through our church during the last year (as it is the last Sunday of our church year).

It's National Dog Day!
Many of us consider our pets to be members of our family. They may be some of the easiest members to get along with! Dogs often embody many chararcteristics we value in friendship & family-loyalty, comfort, unconditional love, etc..
Take time today to honor your pets- ones you have now por ones that you have lost....maybe make a donation to a local animal rescue or shelter or sign up to volunteer your time to help.
However you celebrate, take time to thank God for the blessing of pets in our lives as they can teach us things that humans sometimes can't.

It's National Nonprofit Day today!
Somewhere a lawyer provides legal services for low income families, a barber cuts the hair of the homeless, a dentist or doctor volunteers their time at a free clinic. Somewhere a volunteer rocks a baby that was born addicted. Somewhere a person donates his/her time at a homeless shelter.
National Nonprofit Day reminds us that each of these acts of service happen thanks to capable people & organizations.
Today, take time to learn more about nonprofits in our area. You can find many of our local nonprofits here: https://greatnonprofits.org/city/roanoke/VA
Most of all, be the hands & feet of Jesus by finding a way that you can provide a service within your community.
