This Sunday brings an annual favorite: Music Sunday! The choir will be joined by acclaimed clarinetist Mark Gallagher. Our "Sermon in Song" will be a performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Ten Songs of William Blake by Mark and Scotty. These miniature musical portraits express a range of human emotion through the eyes of childhood wonder and the bittersweet experiences of adulthood. Join us at 11:90am online and in-person.

What do you do when the life you’d imagined for yourself is stuck in committee? Join us online and in-person at 11:00am this Sunday for the story of the UU Hysterical Society… The practical joke that accidentally turned into a 300-thousand-person UU community on Facebook. It’s a story of feeling lost, finding yourself, and UUism-outside-the-box with UUHS founder Liz James.

Due to impending inclement weather (again), Sunday services are cancelled (again). And, since the weather seems to be stuck on repeat, we want to make sure all of our neighbors have what they need!! We are opening our pantry today 11:00am-2:00pm. We have everything from food to menstrual products to cleaning supplies, so please stop by and ring the doorbell if you have needs to be met! We are on the bus route, too!

Penned by our chalice children last Sunday, this letter is being shared here for all Adults to read. It will be sent far and wide - this is the message of those UUs too young to federally vote.
This letter was read aloud in our Zoom gathering this morning. We also sang about sharing the weight of those things burdening our hearts (“Whatever Thing” by Waterdeep) and talked and chanted about peace (“Peace is the World Smiling” by Karen Stokes), how we create it, and how we must identify it in each other. Bookended by our usual chalice lighting and extinguishing, church was good this morning.

Dear Adults,
The world would be different without you. We are proud of the good work you have done and are still doing. You have shown us that it’s okay to fight for something we believe in.

WE ARE SCARED ABOUT THE FUTURE.

Our current government administration could make some severe negative changes. Please help us make the best of what happens. Communicate peacefully to prevent and end war. NO GREED MONSTERS - make sure everyone gets what they need. No more waste and pollution; we can recycle!

It’s not too late to change! We have another chance! Let’s make a stronger community where are welcome and weirdos are encouraged. Remember that one life can change many.

Forever loved,
The Chalice Children of the UU Church of Roanoke

Thank you to Quinn Allen, our first speaker in our Communities of Faith series. In this series, we learn about different faiths and spiritual traditions. Quinn spoke to us about his experiences on the Lakota Red Road and taught us to make prayer ties. Some of us decided to place them in the garden - keep your eyes open out there! Thanks for praying with us, Quinn!

Happy New Year! As we enter 2026, please join us this Sunday, January 4 for our annual ritual of Fire Communion. During this annual observance, we invite you to consider things you want to let go from the old year and/or lift up for the year to come. Whether or not you make resolutions, the New Year is often a time of contemplation of the past and consideration of the future. Join your UUCR community on the threshold of all that is to come!

Happy Holidays! This Sunday, December 28, we will have another "Poetry, Pastries, and Pajamas" Sunday service. It is a very simple affair where we invite everyone to share a bit of one of their own "sacred texts." Join Rev. Jen for this open-mic style hour of sharing. Bring a poem, short essay or excerpt, a story or a song to share with all gathered. Please feel free to bring any leftover holiday snacks to share, donuts and coffee will be provided after service. This service will not be livestreamed, perhaps if you usually join us on YouTube, you might consider reading a favorite poem or other text that morning.
