Ninth Street Church of the Brethren

Ninth Street Church of the Brethren Come worship with us and hear God's word:
Sunday School - 9:45a.m. Morning Worship - 11:00a.m.

Our congregation began in 1917 as a Sunday School and Mission outpost of the First Church of the Brethren in Northwest Roanoke, Virginia. By 1923, the congregation had expanded enough to be organized independently of our parent congregation. The first section of the current Church building was completed in 1925, with additions made in 1937 and 1952 (check dates). Throughout our history, the Ninth

Street Church of the Brethren has partnered in ministry with the other Church of the Brethren congregations in the area and the other Churches in the Southeast neighborhood. Today these partnerships are expressed in the form of our connection with the Virlina District of the Church of the Brethren and the Southeast Roanoke Christian Partnership. We continue to seek the presence of God as we strive to live out our calling to be disciples of Jesus in word and action. We are committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus both in the Southeast neighborhood and in the larger community.

Another successful year for Ninth Street applebutter! Despite the 3 days of hard work, it is always a fun time full of fellowship and camaraderie. From those who peeled, cut, cored, and quartered the first 2 days, to our early risers who got the mash and kettles on as well as stirring started for that long day we had ahead. Thank you to our congregation and to any friends of Ninth Street who stopped by along the way to help stir and can until 10:30 p.m.
We still have a few quarts, pints, and jelly jars available for purchase, call the Ninth St. office if you'd like to grab some before it's gone!
"In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” -Acts 20:35

Resurrection Sunday started with the changing of the cross. Children’s story included feeling the thorns of a holly tree branch. The Damascus Road band gifted us with three songs which followed the progression of the Easter message from the upper room, to Thomas who doubted, and then to giving 100% of ourselves to Christ. Tim’s message and our congregational hymns were followed by the annual Easter egg hunt in the parsonage yard. Christ is risen.
