Mac the Yak, the adventure-loving mascot of the Salem RidgeYaks, came to visit our preschoolers today for some fun and smiles. Church staff couldn’t resist taking a break to say hello, too! We’d call it a grand slam of a visit! ⚾️

As summer begins, this month’s Second Sheet invites you into a season of worship, fellowship, learning, and rest. Inside, you’ll find details about our summer worship schedule, upcoming youth opportunities for mission and fellowship, and the welcome of both our Summer Pastoral Intern and a new member into the life of our church community.

There are many opportunities to stay connected in the months ahead. Evening VBS, “Paying Attention to God in Daily Life” with Dr. John McCall, takes place June 7–10, and registration for August's Churchwide Retreat has been extended through June 12! You’ll also find details on July’s children’s Morning VBS, “Joseph’s Journey” with After Care Camps, an important reminder about staying alert to phishing scams, and an early invitation to save the date for our Rally Day Picnic at summer’s end.

May this summer season bring renewed joy in worship, fellowship, and the shared life of our church community.

Second’s own all-girls’ Scouting America Troop 11 celebrated its first Eagle Scout this past Sunday. Congratulations! We celebrate her hard work, commitment, and outstanding achievement.

Join us for Evening VBS: “Paying Attention to God in Daily Life” — four meaningful evenings of faith, fellowship, and fun for all ages, June 7–10!

🔍 Adults: Grow deeper in faith with mission co-worker Dr. John McCall as we explore ways to notice God’s presence in everyday life. In a world full of noise and distraction, this week will be an opportunity to slow down, listen well, and notice the ways God is already present and at work among us.

🎭 Kids (Ages 4yo–Middle School): Enjoy creativity and fun at our Children’s Theatre Camp with Meghan Griffith—friends are welcome to join!

👶 Childcare provided for our youngest children (under 4 yrs).

🍽 Dinner: Kick off the week with a congregational dinner from Three Li'l Pigs Barbeque on June 7.

We look forward to sharing this joyful week of worship, learning, creativity, and community together!

Hard hats, teamwork, and a beautiful day on site!

Our staff, along with multiple church members, spent the day on site at our Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley “Build It Together” home in partnership with St. John's Episcopal, trading desks for hard hats and helping move this project forward together.

We’re incredibly grateful to every volunteer, supporter, and community partner who has helped bring this home to life so far. Construction continues through June, and there are still opportunities to get involved.

It’s inspiring to witness how servant hearts and community can build not just homes, but hope for the future 🫶
