About five years ago, a man named Dave began attending a local FCA Outdoors men’s Bible study. Through that, he eventually came on a hog hunt in Arkansas. During that trip, Dave recommitted his life to Christ. From there, he continued to grow through Bible studies back home, and over time, he was even baptized. God was clearly working in his life.
Fast forward to this year.
Dave invited his son, Luke, to come on a hog hunt. Luke had been going through some struggles, and Dave felt led to bring him into this environment, hoping it could be a place where God could move in his life as well.
Early in the trip, during one of our devotionals, I noticed Luke beginning to break down emotionally. It was clear that God was working on his heart.
One evening, I took Luke out to a box blind to hunt hogs. While we were sitting there, I asked him a simple but important question. I said, “Would you be willing to pray tonight and ask yourself if Jesus Christ is truly in your heart?”
Luke responded, “Yes, I’ll pray about that.”
As I left him that night, I truly felt like I would have the opportunity to come back and walk him through a prayer of salvation. But as I started heading back out to the blind later, I felt a very clear nudge from the Lord.
“Not tonight, Cory.”
I didn’t fully understand it in the moment. In fact, I was a little frustrated. But I chose to be obedient.
The next day, everything became clear.
Luke had gone out to help others fill feeders, and his dad, Dave, came up to me. He was emotional and said, “Cory, I haven’t been fair to my son. I’ve been hard on him. I haven’t been the role model I should be. I need to ask my son for forgiveness.”
I asked Dave if he would be willing to go on a UTV ride with Luke and me so we could talk.
Out there, in the middle of the woods, Dave broke down in tears and asked his son for forgiveness.
And Luke accepted it.
In that moment, something shifted.
After that, I looked at Luke and asked, “Are you ready to accept Jesus Christ into your heart?”
And right there, with his dad beside him, Luke said yes.
We prayed together, and Luke gave his life to Christ.
We drove back to camp and celebrated what God had just done.
This is why we do what we do.
FCA Outdoors isn’t just about hunting. It’s about creating space for God to move. It’s about relationships, restoration, and seeing lives changed through the Gospel.
