Olson, STD, MA announced the creation of St. Teresa of Calcutta, the 92nd parish of the Diocese of Fort Worth, on Monday, August 1, 2022. Father Brijil Lawrence, SAC, the newly appointed pastor, and Deacon Daniel Zavala, the newly appointed coordinator of parish life, celebrated the first Mass erecting the parish on Sunday, September 4, 2022. This was also the day before the 25th anniversary of St
. Formerly the home of Our Lady of Grace High School, the land and its existing portable buildings was purchased by the Diocese of Fort Worth in 2004 to serve as a future parish site in anticipation for the tremendous population growth in Tarrant and Denton counties. The 31-acre property of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish is located north of U.S. Highway 170 and east of I-35W and is formed from areas within the boundaries of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Fort Worth, St. Philip the Apostle Parish in Flower Mound, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Keller, and St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Grapevine. According to the Deacon Zavala, the next step for St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish includes establishing the parish office, hiring staff, recruiting religious education volunteers, and setting up a regular Mass schedule. Long-term he thinks the first permanent structure to be built will be a multi-use facility with an office, classrooms, and a parish hall where Mass will be celebrated. A church will follow in the coming years.
