I came across a quote on Facebook today that said, “When the replacement from God arrives, you will forget what you lost.”
And honestly, I found myself nodding.
Because it is true.
There are things we cry over losing because, at the time, we thought they were the best God could give.
A person we wanted to stay.
A door we wanted to open.
A plan we wanted to happen.
A dream we thought we could not live without.
And when it was taken away,
delayed, or denied, it hurt deeply.
We questioned God.
We replayed what happened.
We wondered why He allowed us
to lose something we prayed so hard to keep.
But later, when what God prepared
finally arrives, you begin to understand.
You realize His replacement was so much better.
Better than all your expectations.
Better than what you were begging Him not to take away.
Not because what you lost never mattered,
but because what God gives is always wiser
than what we try to preserve by fear.
Scripture reminds us,
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Proverbs 19:21
We can plan a lot.
We can imagine our own timelines.
We can decide what we think is best.
We can attach our hearts to certain people,
seasons, opportunities, and outcomes.
But God sees what we cannot see.
He knows what will bless us.
He knows what will break us.
He knows what will grow us.
He knows what will slowly pull us away from Him.
And sometimes, what we call loss is actually God making room.
Making room for something better.
Making room for something healthier.
Making room for something more aligned with His will.
Making room for what we would not have been ready
to receive if He gave it too early.
Because when the replacement from God arrives,
it will not just be better. It will come at the right time.
Exactly when God knows you are ready for it.
Exactly when your heart has been shaped enough to receive it.
Exactly when you can finally see why the old thing had to go.
And by then, you may realize,
You are done crying over what you lost.
Not because the pain was fake.
Not because the waiting was easy.
Not because the loss did not matter.
But because God gave you something
that carried peace instead of confusion,
purpose instead of fear, and grace instead of regret.
So if you are still grieving what God allowed you to lose, take heart.
The loss may hurt now,
but it is not the final chapter.
God knows how to replace what you thought
you could not live without with something
you will one day thank Him for.
And when His will finally unfolds,
you may find yourself saying,
“Lord, thank You for not letting
my plans prevail over Your purpose.”
Because what God gives is not only better than what we lost.
It is better than all our expectations.
Heart check,
What are you still crying over that God may be preparing to replace with something better in His time?
