They did not only release something—they entrusted something to God.

One by one, our young people nailed their prayers to the cross: private hopes, family concerns, personal struggles, and dreams for the future.

As their prayers were nailed onto the old rugged cross, our Lead Pastor, Rev. Dr. Tony F. Drayton, prayed for and over them—standing in the gap and interceding for their protection, strength, faith, and future.

We may not know every word they wrote, but God does.

Some prayers are too personal to announce, yet too important to carry alone. What a blessing it is for our youth to know they have a pastor and church family committed to covering them in prayer.

The fire did not mean every challenge would disappear overnight. It represented a decision: fear would no longer have the final word.

Courage is not the absence of fear. Sometimes courage is placing fear before God and taking the next step anyway.

Our older students are approaching decisions that can shape their futures.

They need more than instructions. They need honest conversations, trusted mentors, spiritual grounding, and safe spaces to wrestle with real questions.

Thanks to volunteer facilitator Elder Donte J. Talton, the space for honesty, accountability and respect was created, led by the Holy Spirit.

We cannot prepare young adults for life by avoiding difficult conversations. We prepare them by walking through those conversations together.

CONFIDENCE is not teaching young people to believe they will never struggle.

It is teaching them that difficulty does not erase their worth, their ability, or God’s purpose for their lives.

We sincerely appreciate volunteer facilitator, Leroy Kelson, for helping our youth recognize their voices, challenge insecurity, and walk forward with greater courage.

Sometimes one affirming voice becomes the voice a young person remembers for years.

There are moments when young people need more than another lecture. They need space to encounter God for themselves.

Together, they prayed.
Together, they worshiped.
Together, they discovered that faith can be personal without being lonely.

This was not performance. It was a generation learning how to seek God together. This is who we are at St. James Church.

Our middle-school students were reminded that identity becomes stronger when it is rooted in something deeper than popularity, comparison, or approval - Jesus Christ.
