Harry was only 17 when he enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1940 and was stationed on the USS Selfridge. Harry and the crew were sent from the California coast to Pearl Harbor. Meet PVT. Albert H. Landphere. Albert enlisted in the Civil War in Paw Paw, Michigan, May 6, 1861, just weeks before his 26th birthday. His service record is as follows: “Enlisted in Company C, New York 70th Infantry Regiment on 21 Jun 1861. Mustered out on 21 Nov 1861 at Camp Farnum, MD.” Sadly, Albert was wounded in battle sometime in Nov. of that same year, and was sent to the Civil War Regimental Hospital, Camp Farnham, MD, where he died on Nov. 21st. The hospital record indicated he died of his wounds, and of “mania.” The inscription at the bottom was unreadable until we graciously cleaned his stone. It reads, “ For Freedom for Right and for Country he fell”. Thank you Pvt. Landphere for your sacrifice for our Nation!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
