Memo from the Pulpit 5-27-26
Psalm 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Back when i was MUCH younger, i had an interest in learning basketball. I was tall and liked sports, but had little and nearly no knowledge of this particular game other than being well able to identify the ball used. An uncle, my Uncle Ed, said he could teach me. He found out that was easier said than done.
We played and played, day after day, him teaching me the rules of the game, but admittedly we agreed i was not making connections with having any talents with it. Right before i was ready to quit, he told me i needed to find my "sweet spot" before releasing the ball towards the hoop. I laughed. Sweet spot?
From there he proceeded to show me. One particular place on the court where once i released the ball it would sail miraculously toward the hoop, and swoosh! Straight in. Really?
I do not remember how many times i changed locations and released the ball, but i do remember i was borderline ready to thunk him on the head with the ball in a wild release for lying to me. Then it happened. I stood there in disbelief. He tossed me the ball with a grin and said, "Do it again." I did. And again and again and again, crying out "SWEET!"
I already realized basketball was NOT my game not being good at dribbling, but i did take the "sweet spot" idea to the volleyball court and discovered i had a sweet spot volleying from a far right corner to ANYWHERE on the opposing court into their "weak spot". Swoosh! Point well made, Uncle Ed!. AND SWEET!
I am sure the writer of this particular verse was not in reference to the description of "SWEET" as used above, but i am reminded of the experience when i read it. Heartwarming and perfect, ready to relish it again and again.
Jesus said, "I return soon!" Rev 22:20-21
