Dear Arlington Family & Friends,
Language is a very interesting and multi-faceted mechanism in our Human experience. Our church family has quite a number of bi-lingual, tri-lingual, and multi-lingual speakers. A man who spoke 21 languages fluently came to my high school when I was a sophomore. He was a CIA agent and had an I.Q. in the high genius level. He put on a demonstration of his ability to multitask at a very high rate when he placed himself in a 5 minute data input situation; One person read a 5 minute short story; Another person wrote algebra equations on a marker board without including the answers; And a third person was speaking information regarding historical events with dates in one of the 21 foreign languages. At the end of the exercise, the CIA agent entertained any question from the 3 sources and was able to produce the correct answer without hesitation. Remarkable to say the least.
This memory of the CIA agent reminds me of a certain Bible text: "If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:1, 2 (NLT) A very popular Gospel singer, Sandi Patty, sings a song: "Love in Any Language." This is the chorus: "Love in any language, Straight from the heart. Pulls us all together, Never apart. And once we learn to speak it, All the world will hear; Love in any language, Fluently spoken here." Definitely a song worth singing to the best of our ability; in all we think, do, and say. We can because the Joy of the LORD is our strength!!!
The Christmas story is all about "LOVE". There are so many songs written about our Lord Jesus. And more than a few of these Christmas songs are readily recognized as Christian based in most nations around the world where Christianity is known and observed. It is truly a great privilege to be able to learn and sing the great songs about our Lord's birth and the infinite blessings which have been poured out upon our Human family through Him. Even greater is the privilege to be empowered by our Lord Jesus to manifest His love through the words we say and sing, but also through the gifts we cheerfully share with others in the His name. There are numerous reasons to give gifts to others, but the greatest reason I can think of is so others can know and experience at least some degree of the Love of our great Savior's Amazing Grace.
May you and I be used of the Spirit so everyone who sees or hears us sharing the message of Bethlehem's manger, will give the baby born there more than a casual thought. May all who receive any kind of gift from you and me be inspired to put their trust in Jesus. May they be drawn to know the One who is the greatest gift of all time and eternity -JESUS !
"As he considered this, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a dream. "Joseph, son of David," the angel said, "do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." All this occurred to fulfill the LORD's message through his prophet: "Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means 'God is with us.'" Matthew 1:20-22
