We were blessed with 22,000 pounds of food this week from the food bank in Riverside. Thanks be to God. Thanks to our volunteers, especially those who drove multiple trips: Young Wolf and Red Feather, Joe, and Ignacio. Ana, John, Diane, Misty, Teddy, Gloria, and Charles. This was a huge amount of work, all for a great cause.

After more than 130 years, three Fort Peck relatives are home.

Christine Redstone, Peter Howe and Richard Morgan were teenagers when they were sent from the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana to the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania. All three died while attending the school and were buried there.

Earlier this month, members of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes traveled more than 1,800 miles to bring their remains home. Their return was marked by community gatherings, ceremonies and reburials.

For the families and community members who welcomed them home, the repatriation was a moment of grief, healing, reconnection and remembrance.

Giving thanks to the members of Episcopal Church Women (ECW) at St. Mary's Laguna Beach for your generous gift of $900 to support the feeding ministry at St. Michael's Church in Riverside. This money was raised over the last year through a number of events run by ECW volunteers. Live backyard concerts, holiday dinners, and a chili cook-off are some examples. All the money is given away to charitable organizations, including CASA, Wells of Life, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Food Distribution, Native American Heritage Association, Wheelchair Mission and others regionally, nationally and globally. We are eternally grateful for your service and your love.

Lots of joy at the consecration of the new bishop of Los Angeles yesterday. The procession was led by First Women Gather Around the Fire and Sisters of the One Drum led by Sewa Valencia. We drummed, sang, and prayed. Our new bishop is the first Latino to hold the office in this diocese. He is Venezuelan, Antonio Jose Gallardo Lucena.
