We're full of gratitude for this beautiful video the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America filmed at our church on "God's Work. Our Hands" Sunday, and as ever, grateful for the many hands at work in the amazing Riverside Community Garden!

It’s hard to believe July is already half over, but there’s still plenty of time to support our monthly mission!

Now more than ever, we believe it is extremely important to preserve God’s beautiful creation and protect and prioritize both children’s and adults’ access to the outdoors. We’re proud to support Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center, an “Outdoor Sanctuary for All.” LOMC’s stated purpose is “to be the Church in outdoor settings, nurturing Christian faith and providing experiences connecting the Word of God with the World of God.”

Located in Oregon, Illinois (about 95 miles west of Riverside), LOMC is a 600-acre retreat and camp ministry supported by ELCA congregations in Illinois, a perfect place to unplug, reflect, and be inspired. LOMC hosts a summer camp as well as campgrounds and cabins for people of all ages, and it’s home to deer, wild turkey, hawks, owls, and countless other creatures. The organization offers programming year round.

From LOMC’s website: “LOMC is very grateful to honor and acknowledge the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk), Myaamia, Sauk/Meskwaki, Peoria, Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) peoples upon whose ancestral homelands amidst the Rock River Valley we now share ministry as well as all our Indigenous siblings who have and continue to care for this place-this land-and call it their home.”

For more information about how to visit or support LOMC, please visit www.lomc.org.

It was a beautiful Fourth of July for our Ascension family! Our brat stand in Guthrie Park (following the parade) is always a hit—be sure to add it to your to-do list for next year’s celebrations. And our Pastor Chris and his family got a cool ride in a classic car owned by our own Jim Ringbloom. 🎆

The 2026 Ascension Lutheran Concert Series continues Sunday, March 22 with a gorgeous handbell concert featuring Larry and Carla Sue! We hope you’ll join us!

The handbell duo of Larry and Carla Sue have been called “West Michigan’s smallest handbell choir!” They both began playing handbells in 1987 – Larry in California and Carla in England. A handbell festival in Michigan brought them together and they married in 2012. This amazing duo perform music that requires just 8 handbells. Their program consists of a wide selection of hymns, folk songs, and classical compositions. Larry is a much-published handbell composer/arranger and arranges all of their repertoire.

Join us at 4pm on 3/22/26 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 400 Nuttall Road, Riverside. Our concert series is free and open to the public; donations are encouraged but not required. We hope to see you there!
