Biafra Day: A Day of Honor, Remembrance, and Reflection
Today, May 30th, marks another Biafra Day — a solemn occasion observed by millions to remember the lives lost during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970).
This day is not about politics or division. It is about honoring the memory of millions of souls — men, women, and children — who perished in one of Africa’s most tragic conflicts. It is a day to remember the pain, the hunger, the resilience, and the unbreakable spirit of a people who endured unimaginable suffering.
The images of fallen soldiers, empty boots, and blood-red poppies serve as powerful reminders that war leaves behind scars that never fully heal. For many families, the wounds remain open more than five decades later.
While opinions differ on the politics surrounding Biafra, one thing should remain undisputed: human lives lost in conflict deserve to be remembered with dignity.
As we reflect today, let us pray for healing, justice, and lasting peace across Nigeria. Let us remember the past, not to reopen old wounds, but to ensure that such levels of suffering never happen again.
