I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to God and to everyone who has been part of this journey.

Just two years ago, I received my appointment as an Associate Pastor at Arborlawn UMC, serving and caring for River Oaks UMC. At that time, I was not the appointed lead pastor of River Oaks. The lead pastor of Arborlawn also served as the appointed pastor for River Oaks, and together we continued the work of ministry.

In January of this year, River Oaks began an exciting new chapter as we launched the process of becoming a self-sustaining congregation. During that transition, I was appointed as the Interim Pastor of River Oaks UMC.

And now, during this year's Horizon Texas Annual Conference, I received my official appointment as the Lead Pastor of River Oaks United Methodist Church.

I am humbled, grateful, and excited for what lies ahead.

This journey has never been about one person. It has been about faithful people, a supportive church family, dedicated leaders, the partnership of Arborlawn UMC, the encouragement of our Conference, and above all, the faithfulness of God.

I am deeply thankful for your prayers, your trust, your encouragement, and your support throughout these years.

What God is doing at River Oaks is truly remarkable, and I believe we are only beginning to see what He has in store for our church and community.

We will continue moving forward together.

We will continue making disciples.

We will continue serving our community.

And I believe God will continue to surprise us with His goodness, His provision, and His grace.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

We are preparing for what comes next, and I am excited to see what God will do through River Oaks UMC in the days ahead.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Sam Macias

This week, from May 31 through June 3, River Oaks UMC was represented at the Horizon Texas Annual Conference by Connie Sanchez, Kiko Trejo, and myself.

It was a wonderful and meaningful time together. Beyond the worship services, business sessions, and ministry reports, we shared personal experiences, laughter, conversations, and reflections about what God was doing among us each day.

Of course, no trip would be complete without an unexpected adventure! Along the way, we had the surprise of losing a tire and needing a timely replacement at a tire shop. Thankfully, everything worked out well, adding one more story to remember and laugh about in the future.

But one of the most encouraging moments of the conference came during Bishop Ruben Saenz's Episcopal Address.

As he reflected on signs of hope and renewal across our conference, he said:

*"For successful church adoptions that have breathed fresh life into congregations that might otherwise have closed their doors. Like River Oaks that launched apart from Arborlawn UMC after a season of care and building a new bilingual community birthed in courage."*

Hearing River Oaks UMC mentioned as an example before the entire conference was both humbling and encouraging.

What makes this especially meaningful is that the recognition was not simply about our church. It was about what God can do when people are willing to trust Him, serve faithfully, and embrace a new vision for ministry.

For nearly six years, Arborlawn UMC faithfully supported and cared for River Oaks. Today, as River Oaks continues its journey as a self-sustaining congregation, we remain deeply grateful for that partnership and for everyone who helped make this new chapter possible.

This recognition reminds us that what God is doing at River Oaks is not going unnoticed.

Lives are being touched.
New relationships are being formed.
Ministries are growing.

And a community that also Speaks Spanish is continuing to take shape through God's grace.

As we look ahead, let us remain grateful, humble, and faithful. The story of River Oaks is not ultimately about a church building or a program. It is about God continuing to transform lives and build His Kingdom through ordinary people who are willing to say yes.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

The best chapters are still ahead.

Pastor Sam Macias

Nuestros ministerios comunitarios incluyen:
• Clases de inglés (ESL – English as a Second Language)
• River Oaks Food Pantry

Why is River Oaks UMC a good church option for you and your family?

Because we believe church should be more than a place you attend on Sundays.
It should be a place where people encounter hope, healing, purpose, and the love of God in real and life-giving ways.

We understand the times we are living in.

Many people today feel overwhelmed by division, anxiety, anger, uncertainty, and a world that often encourages reaction more than reflection, criticism more than compassion, and fear more than faith.

But this is precisely why the Church matters.

At River Oaks UMC, we believe church is not here simply to offer temporary relief or religious routine.
We are called to help people discover something deeper:
spiritual strength,
lasting hope,
healing,
community,
and salvation through Jesus Christ.

We are a church for our community… that also speaks Spanish.

We are building a welcoming environment where people from different backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences can worship, grow, and belong together.

We are not a perfect church.
We are real people, learning to follow Jesus together with grace, faith, and purpose.

At River Oaks UMC, you will find:
• Christ-centered worship and biblical teaching
• A welcoming and caring church family
• A peaceful and respectful environment
• A community that values unity more than division
• Opportunities for spiritual growth for children, families, young adults, and seniors
• Ministries that serve both spiritual and practical needs

Our community ministries include:
• English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
• River Oaks Food Pantry
• The Arbor Store, helping provide scholarships for local high school graduates pursuing college education

We believe faith should not only help us survive difficult times…
it should help us live with courage, hope, and purpose.

Because the Church is not called merely to exist in the world…
but to make a difference in it.

If you are searching for a church where your family can grow spiritually, find support, and experience genuine community and hope, River Oaks UMC may be the church home you have been looking for.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SAMUEL!!!

We prayed for a pastor like Samuel Macias for many years. Our church is so grateful for Pastor Sam and his wife, Saby, and their three beautiful daughters. They are completely invested in building our church and have doubled our attendance in 2 years. Our children’s program is thriving, and a young adults group has formed and meeting . Our youth group is forming and we’re so excited! Consider joining this growing church! More announcements about VBS to follow!

Looking for a place to call home? Everyone fits here.
