Chapel today in-person and online at 11am. Join us for a candle-lit service recalling "the light to enlighten the gentiles".

Snow blows in giant waves outside
my window, white on gray, blurred
swirls of chaos. Wind whines. Cars
parked on the street below disappear,
buried.

On television Egypt erupts, throngs
in surging masses, giant storm fronts
of frustration, anger, hope. Crowds chant.
Demonstrators clash, the future all
uncertain.

I watch both scenes from the comfort
of my living room, stuck at home:
a snow day. As a child, those words
meant snowballs, wild abandon, school
suspended.

Older now, I hear the “still sad music
of humanity” and cannot just ignore
the threat of nature or of man unleashed,
the moment when it all spins out of control.

Then I recall what day it is: not just
a snow day but Candlemas,
the Presentation of our Lord, the day
an old man got to hold a long-awaited
Child.

It made him feel that he could go in peace.
But seeing him there amid the chaos,
holding a Light that no storm can
extinguish, I find it also gives one strength
to stay.

As part of commencement weekend activities, all are welcome to attend our Baccalaureate Worship: the Service of Praise and Consecration Friday, December 17th, 7:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Our Lord.

Those completing our Church-professional programs will be receiving their certificates, but all our graduating students will be recognized as we give thanks to God for this important milestone in their lives. These words of encouragement and commitment acknowledge that all good and godly vocations— both in the church and the world—come from our Lord and are lived in response to His love.

Although his name is obscured by layers of legend, there was indeed a real, historic St. Nicholas. The 4th century Bishop of Myra (modern southern Turkey) is best known for giving poor children gifts to free them from bo***ge and provide for their education. This morning in chapel we’ll hear more about his life and work, while remembering the greatest gift given to all God’s children—the savior, Jesus.

If you come to chapel today and leave your shoes outside in the narthex, you might also find a small gift in them as you leave!

“And a little Child shall lead them.” (Isaiah 11:6)
