What a truly grace-filled day at St. Vincent Ferrer!

We joyfully celebrated Fr. Dominick Jean’s Mass of Thanksgiving and his first Sunday Mass as a Parochial Vicar at St. Vincent Ferrer. Coming on the great feast of Pentecost, the day was filled with joy and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Parishioners were thrilled to welcome Fr. Dominick in his new role, and many received their first priestly blessings—a moment of profound grace and gratitude.

Following Mass, we gathered for a reception, sharing in fellowship and celebration together as one parish family. It was truly an amazing day for St. Vincent Ferrer—one we will remember with great joy and thanksgiving. Please continue to keep Fr. Dominick in your prayers as he begins his priestly ministry!

Last night we were blessed to celebrate one of our many Dominican Saints, St. Catherine of Siena, with a lecture by Deacon Dominick Jean, OP. The lecture was entitled “Emotions and Desires: Our Path to God.”

Deacon Dominick did his MA thesis on St. Catherine and brought some of his research to bear last night, speaking about how God works to educate and form our emotions and desires, helping us to desire what is truly Good, True, and Beautiful.

We’re blessed both my the lecture and the opportunity to learn more about what our Dominican Saints can teach us today, but also by the fact that over 65 people came out to listen and discuss.

St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us!

On Wednesday, April 29, Deacon Dominick Jean, OP, will be presenting on St. Catherine of Siena in a talk and discussion entitled “Emotions and Desires: Our Path to God.”

Our emotions and desires are neither easily discarded or ignored nor are they necessarily always correct or acceptable without suspicion. While part of our human condition, emotions and desires need to be formed as part of our journey to God.

We need to have our emotions conformed to Christ’s desires and emotions, to his loves.

God himself is the educator or “formator” of our emotions.

Come out to Kyte Hall on Wednesday, April 29, from 7-8pm to hear more about how God helps us to form and shape our desires and how that strengthens our relationship with God.

A little spring cleaning was necessary for our Holy Family statue in the parish courtyard.

Holy Family, we consecrate ourselves and our families to you. May we be completely united in a love that is lasting, faithful and open to the gift of new life. Help us to grow in virtue, to forgive one another from our hearts, and to live in peace all our days.

Keep us strong in faith, persevering in prayer, diligent in our work, and generous toward those in need.

O Holy Family, help to make our home a true domestic church where we reflect your example in our daily life. Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!

Christ and his Church are so generous! We can attend Mass every day. We can receive the Eucharist—Christ’s own Body and Blood—every day.

We are obligated to attend Mass on Sundays, this is part of our commitment if we are to call ourselves Christians, but our Catholic Faith is about more than obligation, it is about love.

Which means that our love should also carry us to Mass not only on Sunday but throughout the week, as we are able and our state of life allows.

Our love should mean that even when we might not feel “entertained” we still show up and we offer to God a sacrifice of our lives and let go of a sense of doing only what is convenient or is amusing.

The Catechism says that the Mass and the Eucharist attune our way of thinking, living, and being to Christ (CCC 1327). Our presence at Mass changes us, and begins this process of formation and conformity to Jesus Christ and to his life. It’s not about convenience or entertainment. It’s about being conformed to Christ, our life taking on the “shape” of Jesus’ own sacrificial love.

The Eucharist—throughout the week but especially on Sundays—makes us the kind of people who can actually go out and witness to Jesus and His love in the world.

If we’re not prioritizing Mass and the Eucharist, we’re going to find our witness and our life lacking.

“The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice…participation in the communal celebration of the Sunday Eucharist is a testimony of belonging and of being faithful to Christ and His Church.” -Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2181-2182
