Following in the footsteps of Pope Leo XIV, parishioners came together on Sunday, June 14 to pray for migrants and immigrants in the United States and around the world. Those who came to hear compelling scriptural messages and pray through words and songs, bore witness to the fact that all are descendants of immigrants, and that Christians are invited to walk in the way Jesus taught to see the brotherhood and sisterhood that unites all people.
The inspiring prayer service emphasized that recognizing the human dignity of each person is the heart of Jesus’s message to all. The gathering brought together prayerful parishioners who call upon God to bless those in need, to guide the actions of world leaders in recognizing the importance of mercy and justice, and to unite all in
the shared family of God.

God and Father of all creation,
we come before you today with humble hearts.
You are our model of a loving father.
When we fail and fall short of your expectations, you are always there at the end of the day with open arms, ready to heal the cuts and scrapes of the day and to encourage us to try again and not to give up.
We hold up these men in our midst who act in the world
as fathers to their children or models of fathers for others.
Bless them in their moments of doubt and frustration with their children.
Give them warm and open hearts to forgive failures.
Provide them with the words needed for
encouragement and perseverance.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus.

Join us for Mass on Sunday, June 21 to celebrate Father's Day with fathers, grandfathers, and father figures. Mass is at 8:00 a.m. at St. Bernardine Church, 9:30 a.m. at St. Luke Church, and at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Church.

Last Sunday, June 14, our parish hosted this summer’s first Coffee on the Plaza! At both of our parish’s beautiful churches, coffee, donuts, scones, and fellowship were enjoyed outside on a beautiful Sunday. Thank you to the Men’s Club for hosting! The next Coffee on the Plaza will be held on July 12.

The parish office will be closed on Friday, June 19. The office will reopen on Monday, June 22, at 9 a.m. Juneteenth observes June 19, 1865, the date enslaved people in Galveston, TX, finally received the news that they were free.

Stop by and enjoy food and fellowship after Sunday Masses at both of our parish’s beautiful churches this Sunday, June 14! Coffee on the Plaza returns to St. Bernardine Church following the 8 a.m. Mass and 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Mass at St. Luke Church. The Men’s Club is hosting at both sites.

What better way to spend a hot Saturday evening than with a great indoor picnic filled with parishioners on Saturday, June 6 following the 5 p.m. Masses as the parish celebrated Patron Saint Day. Each year our unified parish observes a day in late spring to honor both patrons St. Luke the evangelist and St. Bernardine of Siena. But Patron Saint Day is also a day in which we honor all parishioners as the community foundation of the parish. This is a nonticketed event at which all are welcome.
This year the Szurko Trio provided festive background music that set the tone for good conversations. Friends could catch up with the significant happenings in their lives, and share their perspectives on a wide range of topics. The relaxed atmosphere
of Patron Saint Day speaks to the solid fellowship of the parish community.
Certainly, the Big Cash Raffle was on the minds of the many parishioners who purchased tickets that day or even weeks before after many of the parish weekend
Masses. It was an especially lucky day for Daniel Madden, who won the $3,000 first prize; Mira Amal, who won the $1,500 second prize; and Tom McNulty who won the $500 third prize. Congratulations to the winners!
A special thanks to the many parishioners who worked to make Patron Saint Day a great success. Their participation over the months of planning and the final days of working to handle all the details of the day were critical to its success. Mounting this
event required shopping, cooking, serving, setting up, decorating, selling tickets, managing every aspect of the day, and finally cleaning up. Our patron saints may have smiled – joining the many parishioners for whom this was a truly relaxed and fun event.

Once again St. Luke and St. Bernardine Parish celebrated the feast of Corpus Christi by observing a long-established European custom of bringing the Blessed Sacrament into the community. The procession followed the 8 a.m. Mass at St. Bernardine Church on Sunday, June 7. Four altars were created and decorated on the St. Bernardine campus by parish ministry representatives. Participants in the procession sang hymns and reflected on scripture readings as Father Stan carried the monstrance which held Blessed Sacrament and provided a special way to reverence the Christ. The procession then returned to the church and ended with benediction. It was a truly beautiful worship on a most important feast that happened to fall on a day filled with sunshine and blessed with grace.
