Updated corrected version!
I think God is testing the church. What I mean is He is strengthening us. He's calling us to be the people He desires for and created His church to be.
Since the outbreak of this pandemic only a very limited number of church leaders have spoke up about what the church needs and should be doing. Most churches have just shut their doors and said pray. Some have gone to online worship. But what really gets me is the churches that are giving out food, when the news shows up to report what they are doing, they all say WE are doing this great thing to help the community at and not have one mention of God. Please follow this, my take on what God is doing.
You remember the Bible store of the feeding of the 5000 men plus women and children? The gospel tells us that Jesus tested His followers by telling them to feed the people. They tried, but couldn't come up with money or enough food. They only came up with a its as sack lunch. They could have and they should have looked to Jesus and said, "Lord, You can do this." And so, I believe that's the call of God to the church right now, to be the people who come to God and say, "God we cannot solve this but You can!
Instead of relying on the government, science, and doctors, shouldn't we be turning to God, relying fully on Him.
Bless our leaders. Bless those in research. Bless those who are vulnerable, we ask You, Lord.
So let's be that people, folks. Let's be people who call out to God in asking for help. "We're gonna get through this. I'm not saying it's going to be easy. I'm not saying it's going to be quick. But God will take this and He will use it for good." ( Max Lucado).

The Rhythm of Nature
The other morning I read a piece written by Henri J. M. Nouwen and John Eudes. They wrote about autumn as a time of plenitude, a time of fulfillment in which the richness of nature becomes abundantly visible, but also a time in which nature points beyond itself by the fragility of its passing beauty.... Later as I was running errands, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the landscape unfolding itself before my eyes. Looking out over the valleys of the Ohio river and Laughery creek, I was dazzled by the bright colors of the trees. The yellows of the hickory trees, the different shades of red from the maples and oaks, the green of the willows, pines, and cedar--together they formed a fantastic spectacle. The sky was full of mysterious cloud formations, the sun shining through those clouds covering the land with its light, making the cornfields, not yet picked, look like a golden tapestry.
The beauty of fall is unbelievable in this part of the country. I can only say with the psalmist: "The hills are girded with joy, they shout for joy, yes they sing" (see Psalm 65:12-13).
A few weeks from now the colorful leaves will have whirled to the ground and the trees will be bare, announcing the coming of winter and possibly snow. It won't be long then, that possibly, all the hills will be white and any green winter wheat maybe covered with a blanket of snow. But, it is then we can remember the rich power hidden underneath that will show themselves again to those who have the patience to wait.

Just a thought,
We just celebrated another Easter just a few days ago. The Easter season is a time and season of hope. This is a hope that doesn't start and end with Easter, but continues each and every day. Even with this hope there is still fear, there is still the painful awareness of our sinfulness and the sinfulness in the world around us, but there also is a light breaking through. Something new is happening, something that goes beyond the changing moods of our of our life. We can be joyful or sad, optimistic or pessimistic, tranquil, or angry, but the solid stream of God's presence moves deeper than the waves of our minds and hearts. Easter brings the awareness that God is not directly noticed. Easter brings the awareness that God is present even when His presence is not directly noticed. Easter brings the good news that, although things seem to get worse in the world, satan has already been overcome. Easter allows us to affirm that although God seems very distant and although we remain preoccupied with all the little things, our Lord is always right beside us continually walking with us, protecting, guiding, and explaining the Scriptures to us. Therefore, there are many rays of hope casting their light on our way through life.

Something to ponder and pray about!

Live Under the Blessing

Jesus suffered and died for our sake. He suffered and died, not in despair, not as the rejected one, but as the Beloved Child of God. From the moment He heard the voice that said, "You are My Beloved, on You My favor rests," He lived His life and suffered His pain under the Blessing of the Father. He knew that even when everyone would run away from Him, His Father would never leave Him alone.
For us, the greatest temptation is to lose touch with the Blessing. We are Beloved Sons and Daughters of God. When we live our suffering under the Blessing, even the greatest pain, yes, even death, will lead us deeper into the forgiving and life giving heart of God. But when we think we are not loved, when we reflect on ourselves as living under a curse, when we say or think: "I am not good," our suffering will lead us to despair and our death cannot give life.

Love, Henri by Henri J. M. Nouwen

I have known the feeling of thinking I am not loved, I am cursed. But I have learned, all be it the hard way most of the time, that no matter where I am in life, no matter what's going on in my life, God, my Father is always with me, waiting for me to turn back to Him, and live as His Beloved son. So, no matter how much pain and suffering I may face, I will live under the Blessing of my Father so that I may, in life and death give life.

How much time do you spend with God, alone, just you and Him? It is a great encounter to do so. Solitude with God, its precious and needed.....

Open Yourself to the Great Encounter

I am not saying there is an easy solution to our ambivalent relationship with God. It is a direction. The direction is pointed to by the prophet Elijah, who did not find Yahweh in the mighty wind, the earthquake, the fire, but in the still, small voice; this direction, too, is indicated by Jesus, who chose solitude as the place to be with His Father. Every time we enter into solitude we withdraw from our windy, earthquaking, fiery lives and open to the great encounter. The first thing we can discover in solitude is our own restlessness, our drivenness, and compulsiveness, our urge to act quickly, to make an impact, and to have influence; and often we find it very hard to withstand the temptation to return as quickly as possible to the world of "relevance." But when we persevere with the help of a gentle discipline, we slowly come to know the Lord of our heart, soul, and mind, the Lord makes us see who we really are.

New Liberty Baptist Church just wanted to say thanks to all who were at the Lenten Service last night. We also would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Keith Satterfield and Dan McAdams for providing the stupendous special music. It was great and everyone loved it. Again, thank you gentlemen, we love you. We also extend our deepest thanks to Pastor Laura and Brother John Erickson for the superb and amazing message you brought. The two of you allowed God to use you greatly to bring such a dramatic message on His amazing gift of grace and being true disciples. Your love of and for God and all of us was definitely on display. We love you both. May God bless you greatly and continue to use you to be His light and to bring His love to this world. We love you. We also say thanks to Carol Ann, Bill, Roy, Pastors Gary, Wayne, Mike B., and all who took part, especially the kids who picked up the offering, in the service making it a very special night.
Last evenings service was most definitely God inspired and God filled. The Holy Spirit was present. So, with thanksgiving, praise, and love we thank our Father God and our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ for a wonderful and blessed evening.
