God is not mocked

When I just can’t see past myself, I am reminded of the dreadful reality of sin: it bends the heart inward, making self the idol. Left to myself, I am blind, selfish, proud, and consumed with my own desires. But GOD, in HIS great mercy, calls me to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow CHRIST (Luke 9:23).

If my life reflects only me, then it reveals my corruption. But if it reflects JESUS, it shows the power of HIS Spirit at work. The apostle Paul testified, “It is no longer I who live, but CHRIST who lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).

That is the goal—not more of me, but more of HIM.

LORD, strip away my pride. Make me a vessel of YOUR mercy, YOUR grace, YOUR kindness, YOUR goodness, YOUR love, YOUR faith, YOUR patience, and YOUR peace. Conform me to CHRIST, who humbled HIMSELF and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross (Philippians 2:8).

To be a little more like JESUS means to crucify the flesh daily, to put to death what is earthly in me (Colossians 3:5), and to walk in the Spirit, bearing HIS fruit (Galatians 5:22–23). To be a little less like me is to remember that apart from CHRIST, I can do nothing (John 15:5).

The more I decrease, the more CHRIST is exalted (John 3:30). And that is the only way I can truly see past myself—by fixing my eyes on JESUS, the Author and Perfecter of my faith (Hebrews 12:2).
