Margaret “Peggy” Crutcher, 95, died at her home in Ripley, Tennessee on September 3, 2023. She is survived by her daughters, Sally Shurling, Nancy Crutcher, and Margie Stoots, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Clement and Clara Marshall, husband, Jack Crutcher, brother, John Marshall, and a daughter, Virginia Minnaclair Crutcher.

Mrs. Crutcher was a member of Immanuel Episcopal Church for over 75 years. As a devoted Episcopalian, she was an integral part of reopening the church in Lauderdale County. She taught multiple subjects including English and choir in Lauderdale County Schools for many years and enjoyed teaching music and voice. Her musical talents came naturally as her mother was a concert pianist. Mrs. Crutcher was often accompanied by her mother as she performed in the MOAT, now the Levitt Shell, and other locations. As a student at Southwestern College (now Rhodes), Mrs. Crutcher was a soloist with the Southwestern Singers. She also served as a docent during the Wonders Series in Memphis, TN. Mrs. Crutcher was a member of Rosemary Book Club, Thursday Evening Musicale, Lauderdale County Council of Arts, the Beethoven Club, and Episcopal Church Women.

Miss Peggy touched many lives through her faithful works. At her request, all memorials should be made to her church. Her beautiful voice, energy, teaching, and leadership have grown this spiritual community. It is not enough to say that she will be missed. The legacy that she leaves requires each of us to follow her example and walk the path of God.

Visitation will begin at 10:00am Tuesday September 5, 2023 at Immanuel Episcopal Church, 134 South Jefferson Street, Ripley, TN with funeral services to follow at 11:00am. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis. Garner Funeral Home of Ripley has charge of services. Memorials should be sent to P.O. Box 513, Ripley, TN 38063.
