A Community of Jesus Followers

The community of disciples at Covenant have as our primary focus the maturing of disciples most fully into the image of Jesus. We aren’t perfect either individually or together, but we try to encourage, challenge, and support each other. Our most obvious common time together is Sunday morning worship during which we read Scripture, sing some traditional (to us) songs, speak with God on behalf of each other, our friends, and the world, and receive a teaching from the text of the Bible. We share communion every week so that we can both proclaim our faith and remember the grace with which God has blessed the world.

Our congregation arose from the Christian Church/Churches of Christ tradition, with some modifications not necessarily common among the larger tradition. Our music is primarily piano, we have two specific passages of Scripture read every Sunday, and our female members lead much of our services - leading singing, praying, offering communion meditations, and reading Scripture.

We value the story of God in the world not as a source of doctrinal tenets - although we have deduced a few of those, but as a revelation of the concern and love of God for the world, most fully shown in the life of Jesus. A minor refrain in that larger story is a revelation of who humans are made to be - the image of God and disciples of Jesus. Every week we draw the connection between the story in Scripture and our lives today - because the story isn’t over and we have taken our place in the long stream of those who have placed their trust in God, and surrendered their lives to transformation into mature disciples.
