This week in SS we talked about Joseph and his Brothers! We saw how God’s faithfulness extended to Abraham’s descendants, even amid trying circumstances. We also began to understand that the Gospel is all about God redeeming our suffering and turning our loss into great gain. Finally we committed to turning to God in the midst of our tough times, trusting that He will redeem their suffering.

Thought of the day:

In my quiet time this morning, I read Nehemiah 10. After Nehemiah lead the building of the wall and the Isrealite people were back on "good terms" with God, they made another decleration.

There are alot of things listed, but what it boils down to is they got "Back to Basics". They had rebelled against God, repented, and now was the time to get back to basics.

So begs the question, what are the basics for us?

In short we really dont have to do much. We need to be in scripture for 10-15 minutes (or more) each day, pray with God each day (a relationship is nothing without communication), and have conversations "of faith" with someone.

In doing these we are setting up our basic spiritual foundation in our life that we can come back to time and time again. These are our "Basics" that we get back to.

We will drift time and again in life, however if we are "Led by the spirit" we will not "gratify the desires of the flesh".

Have an awesome wednesday!

This week in SS we learned about Jacob and Esau! We saw that God is faithful to His plan of redemption and grace despite our sinfulness. We learned that we can have faith in the plans of God, Who acts out of His great grace for our good and His glory. The story of Jacob and Esau defines what it means to surrender our life to God’s leading, trusting that His will be done in their lives.

Ever felt outmatched? Like the underdog? Elijah did too. The beautiful thing is that GOD works in and through us. We dont have to rely on our own strength that falters and fails us. We can confidently rely on HIS power, and HIS strength to pull us through each encounter where we feel outmatched.

This week in sunday school we hit on a heavy story. The offering of Issac.

Students learned how hard faithfulness is sometimes.

We learned also that Jesus was the perfect example of that faithfulness.

Use these devotions this week to deepen your understanding and keep the conversation going.

Why minister to students? Why give them something else to learn? Why show up week after week carrying the mental burden with them?

Because this is the most important thing they will hear all week.

Their grades will be forgotten.

Their future jobs will forget them when they leave.

The middle school and high school friendships likely wont be around in 20 years.

But God shows up for us and them every single day.

God showed up 2000 years ago on the cross.

Why do all this? Because its their eternity.

This week in our year long sunday school series called "THE THREAD" we saw how God laid the foundation of faith in him through his covenant with Abram, and more so, how that same covenant was extended to us through Christ.

Use these 5 devotions this week to continue the conversation with your student, or have your student use these in their quiet time this week!
