TITLE: REVIEW OF PAST EVENTS Part 1

TEXT: REVELATION 1: 19-20

(1) - INTRODUCTION: As we have studied scripture, we have learned that the word of GOD was established at some point in eternity past {our past for discussion sake}. Ps 89:2 For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.

Psalm 119:89 LAMED. Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

Psalm 119:152 ¶ Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them forever.

Psalm 119:160 ¶ Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth forever.

Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Matthew 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

1st Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
From the old testament to the new testament - the word of GOD is the same.

Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore, ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

The word of GOD is everlasting and eternal. There is no changing in GOD, the Father, the Son, neither the Holy Ghost. All three are the same - yesterday, today, and forever. There in no evidence of GOD ever being wrong about anything. There is no evidence of GOD ever failing to keep the promises HE made to the nation of Israel nor all of mankind. Anyone who would argue with the truth of the word of GOD is in for a rude awakening on the day of judgement. So lets review a few of the past events which GOD used to establish the complete salvation of mankind and even nature.

(2) - THE BEGINNING: Before ever created the heaven and the earth, HID plan was already in effect. You may wonder how can we know - it’s in the choice GOD gave man at the beginning of time. What choice you may ask - the two trees. GOD gave man a choice between carnal knowledge and a holy life. GOD knew that Adam would choose carnality over holiness. HE knew, that’s how we can know that GOD already had a plan to save mankind from HIS eternal wrath. Before that GOD established light, not the sun, but the light of HIS holy righteousness. This was established for people like you and me - we can understand that GOD never wanted man to stumble around in darkness yet what do we do with this awesome knowledge?

Romans 1: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
GOD knew that man would choose carnality over righteous holiness. This was exampled in the murder of Able by Cain shortly after the beginning. GOD’S knowledge is so complete that HE even warned Cain and gave him a choice.

Genesis 4: 3 ¶ And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 ¶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 ¶ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 ¶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.

We see in these verses GOD gave Cain an opportunity, a choice, a path to redemption. GOD provided step by step way to redemption - HE gave all this to Cain and Cain rejected it. Cain’s response was selfish and carnal - man’s response when separated from GOD. Yes, GOD’S plan for mankind was already in full effect from the beginning. GOD gave plenty of clues that there is always a choice we can make to claim salvation from GOD’S wrath.

In the text for today, GOD wants to remind us {mankind} all of us. HE told John to remind us of what has occurred in the past, what’s going on in the present, and what the future holds for all of mankind. No one can escape GOD’S plan - HIS plan for those who accept HIS invitation to salvation, and those who reject HIS invitation. This invitation is not intended to foster terror in the being of man but to calmly express the choice we can make.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

GOD MY SHEPHERD

SERIES: THEOLOGY – A STUDY OF GOD

TITLE: LORD MY SHEPHERD

TEXT: MATTHEW 3: 1-11

I borrowed this outline from an Adrian Rogers message titled “The Secret of Success” . After listening to this message, I realized that many of us pay very attention to the lessons of the phrase “The Lord is my shepherd.” We see that the prophecies of the Messiah from Bethlehem to end times is contained in this message from GOD’S man King David. Studying this passage, we can gain an understanding of the awesomeness of GOD’S grace.

(1) - THE GOOD SHEPHERD: As we pay attention to the psalm, we see that David says that the Lord is my shepherd. Notice that he says my shepherd. That’s shows a personal relationship with the Lord. The name Lord here is Jehovah. This is the name for GOD that is considered to be too holy to even speak out loud. I am told that the name was so holy that the scribes would take an unused pen to write the name then use the old pen to continue on as they wrote. We say the name Jehovah, but some say it is Yawah or Yehovey. It is not really known how the name is pronounced. In the Hebrew language - the letters are “Yhvh” and the name having never been spoken, we really don’t know how to pronounce the name. The whole point is that this GOD whose name is so holy to even be spoken is “my” shepherd. We can understand that GOD desires to have a personal relationship with us - each and every one of us. The scripture tells us that Davis was a man after GOD’S own heart. Prophet Daniel was special in the mind of GOD. Adam was and the apple of GOD’S eye. The whole truth expressed in this statement is this - GOD loves mankind. GOD desires to be the personal shepherd for every individual, that’s why as our/my shepherd he came in human flesh to teach us and show us the way back to HIS paths of righteousness. He gave His life to pay our sin debt. With His death, He opened the path to a renewal of a personal relationship with the Father.

Ephesians 2: 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 ¶ For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. He came to seek and save the lost. Lu 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. In His earthly ministry, He is the good shepherd.

(2) - THE GREAT SHEPHERD: Also in the laying down His life for us, the sheep, we see what makes Him the great shepherd.
John 10: 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Jesus acknowledges He is the good shepherd now we see what makes Him the great shepherd. Not only am I willing to lay down my life for the sheep, I have the authority to take my life up - out of the tomb. The grave did not have the power nor ability to keep Him in the ground, He established that His authority covered even death and the grave.

1st Corinthians 15: 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

There is no greater authority in all creation above or more powerful than that of our great shepherd. Throughout all of history, mankind has spent much effort to spread doubt and disbelief about the great shepherd - Jesus Christ. Satan’s desire is to plant the seeds of doubt and unbelief HE CANNOT!!!

Psalm 119: 89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. 90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

Matthew 24: 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. The word of our great shepherd was established before creation and it will stand into eternity. Our good shepherd, our great shepherd is also our chief shepherd.

(3) - THE CHIEF SHEPHERD: The chief will come and lead the sheep in eternal living - as chief shepherd, He will remove us from the very presence of sin.

Psalm 24: 7 ¶ Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

The King, the chief shepherd will come and lead us into His established kingdom. Many people are living life from day to day - just existing. So many live from crisis to crisis never experiencing the joy of Jesus Christ. I personally lived many years thinking that I was happy with life as it is. Then Jesus got my attention. My life is not a bed of roses - unless you want to consider the thorn in the rose. Yes life is tough and things come at us. I am still learning to count it all joy when life produces down in the dumps things. No longer am I satisfied with glitzier, shinier, more braggadocious things. GOD desires us to become contented with what HE provides. I would encourage you to love worth finding and listen to that message “ secret of success.”
