Duct Tape

Growing up, I was convinced there was nothing my dad couldn’t fix—and if he couldn’t fix it, he would still find a way to make it work. More often than not, his tool of choice wasn’t fancy or expensive. It was duct tape.
A broken handle? Duct tape. A loose piece on something that really should have been replaced? Duct tape. Something that looked like it had absolutely no hope of staying together? Well… my dad would study it for a moment, nod like he had solved a great mystery, and reach for the roll of duct tape.
What amazed me wasn’t just the fixes—it was the message behind them. It said, “We’re not done with this yet.” It said, “This still has value.” It said, “I’m not giving up on it.”
In a simple way, it reminds me of how God deals with us.
Scripture tells us in Isaiah 64:8, “We are the clay, and You are our potter.” God doesn’t throw us away when we get cracked or worn. He doesn’t look at our broken places and say, “That’s it.” Instead, He keeps working on us. He holds our lives together with a love that refuses to let go.
Where duct tape eventually gives out, God’s grace does not. Where human fixes are temporary, God’s restoration is eternal. He doesn’t just patch us up—He transforms us. He makes what is broken whole again.
So today we give thanks for fathers—especially the ones who taught us, sometimes without words, that love shows up in steady hands, simple tools, and a refusal to quit on what matters.
And we give thanks to our Heavenly Father, who holds every cracked place of our lives together not with tape, but with grace, mercy, and steadfast love that never fails.

Pastor Cheri continued her sermon series on prayer this Sunday with the message, "One Minute with God.” Luke 18:1 tells us, “They should always pray and not give up.”

One Minute. One Prayer. One Church Family.

Prayer is powerful. God can change things in the blink of an eye. Imagine what He can do when an entire church family takes just one minute each day to pray together.

Pastor Cheri shared a wonderful illustration with the children, showing how a single drop of water added to a jar may not seem like much at first, but over time those drops fill the jar. In the same way, our one-minute prayers, offered faithfully day after day, can accomplish miraculous things through God's power.

She shared a story about a group of college students who went to visit the home of John Wesley, the famous reformer who led a wave of spiritual renewal in the 1700s and founded the Methodist movement. They noticed there were indentions on the floor of his room where he knelt to pray each day. After the tour, the class loaded on their bus. When the teacher counted, there was one missing. He went back through the property looking for the student and found him kneeling in those imprints praying, “Do it again, Lord. Do it again!” The teacher quietly walked up, tapped Billy Graham on the shoulder and let him know they had to leave.

What a reminder that prayer matters. One minute may seem small, but when God's people pray, lives are changed, hearts are transformed, and God moves in mighty ways.
