Have you heard of Auxiliary SWAP?

SWAP was an initiative started in 2018 that encouraged members to Share Wonderful Auxiliary Projects. It works when an Auxiliary has had a great idea for a project, Program, event, parade float, membership recruitment or promotion and decides to document and share that idea with other Auxiliaries. On Saturdays, we share SWAP ideas and successful SWAPs.

Below are 3 easy ways to SWAP!

Social Media: Photograph your event, project, etc. and share along with “How To” information on your Auxiliary’s page. Ask your Department to share your post, too, in order to ensure the idea reaches more members. With every posting, use the hashtag so members from all over the country and beyond can see these ideas, too.

The E-Newsletter: If you’ve had a great idea that you’d like to share with our membership, be it a type of membership drive, Program promotion, request for a new type of press release, community project or even a cool parade float, send it to us at [email protected] with the subject line “AuxSWAP.” We would love to periodically share these with our membership through the E-News throughout the year!

Word of Mouth: Talk up your ideas the old-fashioned way! Go to a District, Department or County Council meeting, Conference or Convention and chat with fellow members about what you did, how you did it, what worked, what didn’t, and what may work for others in the future! Answer questions, but also exchange ideas for the future that might improve upon what you’ve done and help them to have the same positive experience your Auxiliary did.

When you share your Auxiliary’s ideas and another Auxiliary runs with them, that’s a successful Auxiliary SWAP!

ON THIS DATE…
In 1914, the Christmas Truce began.

“The Great War” had been raging for more than six months and already there had been tens of thousands of casualties, not counting civilians, as the Industrial Revolution allowed for the deadliest battles the world had ever seen.

By Christmas Eve, soldiers in the trenches across Europe were exhausted, cold and suffering from low morale.

Along the Western Front as the time approached midnight, British soldiers heard noise in the distance. They paused to listen and realized the Germans, their enemies, were singing Christmas carols. The British began to sing back. This led to an agreement from representatives on both sides to meet in the middle – No Man’s Land – to talk. A temporary truce was agreed upon, and soldiers spent the next several hours singing, sharing food and wine, trading ci******es and ci**rs and even playing soccer.

Across Europe, similar truces broke out that night, some of which lasted several days. One British soldier, a barber, offered haircuts to German soldiers. Soldiers from both sides helped each other collect and transport their dead.

Said a German soldier to a British soldier, “Today we have peace. Tomorrow, you fight for your country. I fight for mine. Good luck.”

Do you know anyone who joined the Auxiliary under the eligibility of a World War I veteran? Or was your Post named for someone who served in that war? Let us know by shouting out that hero’s name in the comments!
