With joy we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the first Pope from the United States of America, His Holiness Robert Francis Prevost, as Pope Leo XIV, elected as the 267th Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church.

Born in Chicago on September 14, 1955, Pope Leo XIV is 69 years old. He was appointed Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America on April 12, 2023. An Augustinian friar, he served in Peru for many years before becoming bishop of Chiclayo in 2015. He speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French, and Portuguese, and he can also read Latin and German. He brings decades of missionary, academic, and leadership experience while being concerned about the poor. He's also reportedly a Chicago Cubs fan! May God be with the Holy Father.

We rejoice with the universal Church upon the election of Leo XIV and offer our prayers to God that the Holy Spirit will guide our new pope in charity and goodness.

O God, shepherd and ruler of all the faithful,
look favorably on your servant Leo XIV,
whom you have set at the head of your Church as her shepherd;
grant, we pray, that by word and example he may be of service
to those over whom he presides so that,
together with the flock entrusted to his care, he may come to everlasting life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
