Are you merely performing or actually living?

The Pharisees were not irreligious people.

· They were the most religious people in the
nation.
· They knew the Scriptures.
· They tithed down to the spice rack.
· They fasted twice a week.
· They wore the right clothes.
· Said the right prayers
· Sat in the right seats.

By every external measure, they were the model of faithfulness.

And Jesus still called them dead.

Like a whitewashed tomb...Beautiful on the outside. Dead on the inside.

When you come to church, are you performing or living out your profession in Christ Jesus?"

We are beginning a 13-week series this Sunday that will take us to places many of us have never gone before.

It's called "COUNTERFEIT FAITH"

We are going to examine the difference between cultural Christianity and genuine biblical faith. And I want to tell you upfront — this series is not aimed at "those people out there." It is aimed at us. At me. At every person who has ever claimed the name of Christ without counting the cost of following Him.

We will read some scriptures that likely have been long forgotten and will be very hard to hear. We will look at church history to see what we got right and what's might not be so right in God's eyes.

Jesus asked a question about two thousand years ago that still echoes today: "When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8)

The question is not whether cultural Christianity exists. The question is whether it exists in us.

Join us this Sunday as we begin. You won't want to miss this.

Don't forget to go to BE part of the body of believers!

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." — 2 Timothy 1:7

God has not given you timidity. He has not given you passivity. He has not given you niceness.

He has given you power — dunamis (G1411) — the same word from which we get "dynamite."

He has given you love — agapē (G26) — the self-sacrificing, truth-telling, cross-bearing love of Christ.

And He has given you a sound mind — sōphronismos (G4995) — self-discipline, clear thinking, sobriety of mind.

That is what God has given us. Rise up and walk in it.

This week we start a new series you won't want to miss! We will begin our examination of "cultural" Christianity vs biblical Christianity. You will not want to miss this series as we dive into the scriptures and church history.

"And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none." — Ezekiel 22:30

God looked for a man. One man. Someone to stand in the gap. And He found none.
I refuse to let that be said of our generation. I refuse to let God look at this church, at this community, at this nation — and find no one willing to stand.

Will you join me?

Blessings to you, as we prepare our hearts for the final message in our series being released tomorrow...please take the time to reflect and remember the Lord as He is...and catch up on the first two parts of the series if you missed them.

"Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me." — Mark 10:21

Jesus loved him. And that love looked like telling this young man the one thing he did not want to hear.

Jesus didn't soften the message to keep him comfortable. He didn't lower the bar. He identified the one thing standing between this man and eternal life — and told him to let it go.

The young man walked away sad. And Jesus let him go. Because love does not compromise the truth to keep someone comfortable.

What is the one thing you are holding onto?

Jesus looked at Peter — His disciple, His friend, the man who just confessed Him as the Christ — and called him Satan to his face.

"But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men." — Matthew 16:23 (KJV)
Was that nice? No. Was it necessary? Absolutely.

Peter was speaking from human wisdom, not from God's purposes. And Jesus would not let that stand. Not even from His closest friend. The truth mattered too much. The cross mattered too much.

Real love does not let a friend walk into deception without saying something.

In this series final message — we see the full picture. You will not want to miss it!!

Jesus made a whip. He flipped tables. He drove them out.

"And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables." — John 2:15

He didn't politely ask them to leave. He didn't write a gentle note to the temple board. God's house had been turned into a marketplace — and someone needed to say, "This cannot be tolerated any longer!"

That is not nice. But it is righteous.

When are we as Christians going to stand up against such lies?
