Saint Fleur of Beaulieu, Virgin of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem and of Rhodes and Malta

Saint Fleur (Flora) was born about 1300 at Maurs in France.
At the age of thirteen she took the veil in the convent of the Sisters of St John of Jerusalem at Beaulieu, in the diocese of Cahors (France), where she devoted herself to tending the poor and the sick in the hospital attached to the convent. She sublimated distractions and temptations in the love of God and in mystical experiences.
She had a special devotion to Christ Crucified, to Our Lady of the Annunciation, and to Saint John the Baptist, the patron of the Order of Saint John. She died in 1347 and her relics are still in the church at Issendolus in the Diocese of Cahors. Saint Fleur, for 33 of your 47 years on earth, you served the sick and the poor as a sister of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. Pray for the Order and its members, who serve the sick and the poor.

Almighty and merciful God, who wished blessed Fleur to love and live as a virgin in the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, grant that, following her example, we also may love you more and more. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Heart to Table Celebrates the End of a Wonderful Year

On June 4th, the Malta House Heart to Table Ministry celebrated the conclusion of its inaugural year with a festive summer BBQ. Residents and volunteers gathered to enjoy a delicious meal featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, watermelon, ice cream sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies. The evening was filled with joy, laughter, and fellowship as everyone reflected on the friendships and community that have been built around the table throughout the year. Music added to the festive atmosphere, and before long, guests were on their feet enjoying some lively line dancing.

The Heart to Table BBQ was a wonderful reminder of the ministry's mission: bring people together through shared meals, meaningful conversations and genuine companionship. The success of this first year is a testament to the dedication of the volunteers and the warm spirit of the Malta House community. We look forward to many more years of fellowship and friendship around the table.

Saint Ubaldesca, Virgin of the Order of St John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta

She was born in 1136 at Calcinia, near Pisa (Italy). At the age of fifteen, she joined the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, and worked for fifty-five years in the infirmary attached to the monastery at Pisa, caring for her neighbor out of love for God. She died on 28 May 1206. Her body was taken back to Calcinia where it is now enshrined. Not only honored among the saints and blessed of The Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, She is celebrated also as a patroness of the City of Pisa.

O God, pride of the humble and lover of virginity, you called Saint Ubaldesca to the religious life in the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem: Grant that through her prayers and example we may rejoice in being humble and follow you with pure minds. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

“When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind… and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.” Acts 2:1–4

Blessed Vilmos Apor is closely connected to the Order of Malta, as he served as a Chaplain of the Order of Malta in Hungary. His life of heroic charity—especially his defense of the poor, the sick, refugees, and vulnerable women—embodies the Order of Malta’s charism of tuitio fidei et obsequium pauperum (defense of the faith and service to the poor).

His witness continues to inspire members of the Order to serve with courage, compassion, and unwavering respect for human dignity.

Members and volunteers gathered on Thursday, May 7, at Malta House for a meaningful evening of the Heart to Table ministry, preparing and serving a delicious taco dinner with the moms and babies of Malta House. Through shared conversation and hospitality, volunteers helped create a welcoming space where guests could enjoy a nourishing, tasty meal with community and care.

A special thank you to Andrea Wolf for serving as our head chef and leading the preparation of the evening’s meal. Thank you as well to everyone who donated time and talent to prep the meal and entertain babies.

Members and volunteers gathered on Wednesday, May 13, for a Malta Walks bag-stuffing evening in preparation for outreach with the Missionaries of Charity. Care bags were assembled with essential items for those experiencing homelessness, including emergency blankets, ponchos, toilet paper, snacks, shampoo, razors, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, wipes and clean socks.

On Sunday, May 17, volunteers joined the Malta Walks ministry alongside the Missionaries of Charity to distribute the bags to the unhoused and spend time with those they encountered. More than simply providing necessities, the ministry offered compassion, dignity, and human connection to individuals often living on the margins.

Thank you to all who contributed their time, donations, and prayers to make this outreach possible and bring comfort and hope to those in need.

On Wednesday, May 13, members gathered at St. Aloysius for a meaningful Prison Ministry “Words of Hope” meeting. Volunteers created 50 handwritten postcards filled with encouragement and support for participants in the Support Court Program Book Club.

The postcards were prepared as invitations to the new book club initiative, where participants will begin reading The Alchemist. Each message was thoughtfully written to offer hope, inspiration, and a reminder that others are praying for and supporting them on their journey.

This simple but powerful ministry reflects the Order’s mission to uphold the dignity of every person through compassion, encouragement, and human connection.
