October report:
3 years ago, at the end of October, my family and I were in southern Brazoria County as guests of Unity Missionary Baptist Church of Richwood. We were seeking God’s will for the next chapter in our ministry journey, and the members of Unity were seeking to act on their own vision to see churches planted along the rapidly growing Highway 288 corridor. That November was a whirlwind of preparation, and by December we were on the field. In the 3 years that have passed, there has been much to report on two different fronts. One is the opportunity for ministry that God has opened up for us. The other is the amount of development that we’ve seen on the 288 corridor.
We had hardly settled into our home in Lake Jackson when God opened doors for us to meet local families and start a Bible study in our home. The husband and dad of one of these families accepted Christ as Savior in our home, and the members of this family became part of the charter membership of the first church to be planted as part of the 288 Church Planting project: Coastal Way Baptist Church. God continues to bless the gathering, worship, and outreach efforts of Coastal Way.
God blessed Amy and I with an abundance of ministry opportunities that we never could have found on our own through the Pregnancy Help Center of Lake Jackson. We began volunteering there in July 2022, and have led 21 young men and women to accept Christ in that time. 9 of those salvations have been in 2024. There are countless more that we have poured into with prayers, parenting classes, Bible studies, and many other conversations about faith and family. This also gave me the opportunity to connect with another pregnancy center in Manvel, and help them to explore starting their own men’s ministry.
For 3 years, every drive from Lake Jackson to Pearland on Highway 288 has given us something new to talk about. Houses being built by the hundreds. Road construction in multiple places to convert the highway into a freeway with multiple overpasses. A grain field that was just harvested last fall is now being excavated for another subdivision that is projected to have over 2,000 homes. The intersection of Highways 288 and 6 that was an empty lot 3 years ago is now a growing shopping center that is anchored by a brand new HEB. God has given us opportunities to be part of the communities along the 288 corridor through local involvement and new relationships in Rosharon, Iowa Colony, Manvel, Pearland, Danbury, Brazoria, and others.
I am amazed and grateful to see how God has worked in such a short time, and excited for the future of Gospel ministry in Brazoria County Texas.
