Public Policy Witness Ministry - Presbytery of the James

Public Policy Witness Ministry - Presbytery of the James Organizing the Presbytery of the James to take action on important social issues. We are also in support of RVA Rapid Transit.

The Public Policy Witness Purpose Group was formed in 2010 to continue and to enhance the presbytery’s longstanding practice of encouraging effective public policy witness among individuals and congregations of the presbytery. The group serves as a liaison between those members of the presbytery who seek to be engaged in advocacy work and selected faith-based organizations practicing public policy

witness within the state of Virginia. We are currently connected with the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy and the Charlottesville Coalition for Gun Violence Prevention. Our policy priorities for the 2016 legislative session are Immigrant Rights and Gun Violence Prevention.

You will want to attend this event sponsored by the League of Women Voters AND the Charlottesville Coalition for Gun Violence Prevention--this is a Virtual event for Sunday, March 14th!

Andrew Goddard, Legislative Director of the Virginia Center for Public Safety, will provide background/updates on recent Legislative issues

02/24/2021

An EVITE Invitation will be posted here in the near future but mark your calendar NOW! The Virginia 2020 General Assembly passed significant gun violence protection legislation that, as a result, makes Virginia a safer place to live. Despite these great strides, however, there was still work to be done. Ghost guns (guns that do not have serial numbers) should be banned, guns should be taken away from domestic violence abusers, and banning guns from polling places were just a few of the bills considered.

For an update on these and other bills passed by the 2021 General Assembly please join us on March 14 for a presentation by Andrew Goddard. Andy is the Legislative Director of the Virginia Center for Public Safety and an active advocate for sensible gun legislation. Andy will also provide background on issues and welcomes questions.

The LWV-CVA Firearm Safety Committee and the Charlottesville Coalition of Gun Violence Prevention are sponsoring this Zoom presentation.

Please email your questions prior to the presentation to [email protected] During the presentation you will have an opportunity to ask questions using the “chat” feature in Zoom.
