A Message from Bishop Stevenson:

Congratulations to the Rev’d J. Randolph Alexander Jr. on his election as the next Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Florida!

Randy has been a faithful and gifted leader in the Diocese of Virginia, serving as rector of Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill in Alexandria since 2013.

I am grateful for his thoughtful leadership, pastoral heart, and commitment to the gospel—and for the faithful people of his congregation who have shared in and supported his ministry among us.

We rejoice with the Diocese of Florida and hold Randy, his family, and the people of Immanuel in our prayers as they enter this season of transition. May God bless this new chapter of ministry!

Children are full members of the Body of Christ today, bringing essential gifts, faith, and wisdom to our common life. As congregations seek deeper ways to welcome young people, we face a core question: How does our culture need to change so children can participate more fully in worship and the life of the Church?

That question anchored a recent workshop led by the Rev. Dr. Kenda Creasy Dean, an author, theologian, and practical ministry expert. The session was part of Pathways to Prayer and Practice, a five-year initiative supported by a major grant from the Lilly Endowment.

This grant gives the Diocese of Virginia a strong foundation to help congregations expand children’s participation in worship, deepen faith formation with families, and develop sustainable practices for congregational life.

For many parishes, change requires looking beyond more children’s programming. It asks us to examine our culture—the unspoken assumptions, habits, and expectations that dictate how children experience Sunday morning with the entire congregation, not just with their peers.

The annual Pride Eucharist is sponsored by the churches of the Central Richmond, North Richmond, and West Richmond regions of the Diocese of Virginia as part of the City of Richmond’s Pride Festival.

This year’s host is St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Richmond, and the preacher is the Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson, who served as ninth bishop of New Hampshire from 2003 until 2013. This joyous occasion provides the wider community the opportunity to give thanks for the life and witness of LGBTQ+ people in the church and the world.
