Assalaamualaikum,

We all know that it's our duty as Muslims to share the message of Allah with fellow human beings with the hope that all of us enter Jannah.

ICR is inviting Non-Muslims to Open House program on April 1st, Saturday and sharing our Ramadan experience with Iftar.

Please reach out to your Non-Muslim friends, neighbors and coworkers and share the flyer with them through any app or email.

Hard copies will also be available at the Masjid for you to pick up to be given out.

We also encourage you to make efforts to bring them along with you to the "Experience Ramadan with Muslims" themed Mosque open house program. Please reach out to the school teachers and staff of your children as well.

Please participate in this outreach as it will benefit many in the larger society to understand our faith and clarify any misconceptions.

Please come and join the "Call to End Racism" and show solidarity with our African American brothers and sisters who have been at the receiving end of systemic racism for centuries.

The event will involve a line up of speakers from different backgrounds including community members, students, activists and faith groups.

After the speakers, We will also take a pledge to end racism and conduct a silent prayer for 8 min 46 seconds to our creator to eradicate this scourge in memory of George Floyd.

This event is open for all members of society. It will be conducted in the parking lot of Islamic Center of Richmond with face masks and social distancing.

Eid-ul-Fitr is based on moon sighting, according to the Sunnah. It can be either Tuesday June 4th or Wednesday June 5th, Insha Allah.

Based on Moon sighting, the Eid-ul-Fitr, first of Shawwal, can be Tuesday June 4th or Wednesday June 5th.

Nation wide, Hilal sighting committees will take reports of moon sightings across the continent today at Maghrib and announce the Eid after validating them. Please find the updates on our website or call us. Email notifications will also be sent out if you are registered to receive ICR Newsletter.

Sadaqat-ul-Fitr Amount for 2019

Sadaqat-ul-fitr is an obligation for every Muslim, male or female, who owns 613.35 grams of silver or its equivalent, either in the form of money, ornaments, stock-in-trade, or in the form of some goods or commodities beyond one's normal needs. Every person who owns such an amount has to pay Sadaqat-ul-fitr, not only on behalf of himself but also on behalf of his minor children.
Hadith:
Ibn Abbas (RA) has narrated that Rasulullah SAW prescribed Sadaqatul Fitr as an obligatory duty in order to purify those who fast, from useless and obscene activities and to provide food for the poor. (Abu Dawood)

Khatam-ul-Quran and Fundraiser on June 1st

Khatam-ul- Quran in the taraweeh and fundraiser to get Permanent Certificate of Occupancy will be on June 1st at Masjid Yusuf.

The Chicago Hilal Committee has received and confirmed and reports of the moon being sighted by our contacts on the in Chile. Therefore, the 1st of Ramadan will begin on Monday, May 6th, insha’Allah. Ramadan Kareem!

Ramadan 2019 Start Date

Abu Hurairah (RA) says that the Holy Prophet said: "Start fasting on seeing the new moon and stop fasting on observing the same. If you are unable to spot it due to the sky being cloudy then treat the month of Shaban as thirty days." (Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari)

Based on Moon sighting, the first of Ramadan may be on May 6th [Monday] or May 7th [Tuesday].

Nation wide, Hilal sighting committees will be meeting on the evening of May 5th [Shaban 29th] to monitor hilal sightings across the country and will take a decision on the start of Ramadan. Please check the ICR website for updates and email will also be sent out on May 5th regarding the start of Ramadan.

ICR's Moon Sighting Policy
ICR, since its inception, has been following the policy of relying on the actual moon sighting information from National Hilal Sighting organizations like Chicago Hilal sighting committee, Shariah Board Chicago/Newyork, & Dar-ul-uloom Buffalo to determine the start and end of all Islamic months. ICR accepts any positive confirmation of Moon sighting from these National organizations and declares the Islamic Months. ICR notifies the community through its website and Newsletter about all important dates based on this policy.

Ramadan Iftaar Sign up

Our beloved Messenger of Allah [PBUH] said,"Whoever feeds a fasting person will have a reward like that of the fasting person, without any reduction in his reward." [Tirmidhi]

Please sign up to provide iftaar for the fasting muslims. The iftaar sign up sheets have been put up on notice boards at Masjid Yusuf and Mayland Musalla.

Support the activities at ICR during Ramadan

The best investment of our time and energy is to help the Deen of Allah. If we help Allah, Allah will help us and make us steadfast. There is plenty of volunteer opportunity at ICR during Ramadan and if you can volunteer your time, please let us know. The Prophet [PBUH] said "Do not disdain a good deed, even if it is meeting your brother with a smiling face". We look forward to seeing you actively volunteering yourself at ICR during Ramadan.

Funds needed for Parking lot

As we diverted our funds from completing the inside of the Masjid to complete the parking lot to fulfill county requirements for Temp certificate, we are in dire need for funds to pay our contractors who are finishing their work in the interior of the Masjid.

We are humbly reaching out to you all seeking funds to complete the interior of the Masjid which will enable us to get temporary occupancy certificate from the county.

We are making progress in completing the interior work of Masjid Yusuf to offer salah in Ramadan. To achieve this in time, we need to complete the interior work followed by county inspection.

We are still short of funds to accomplish this goal. The need is for $180K to finish the interior of the Masjid. We want to tap the greater Richmond community again and encourage everyone to help the Masjid project cross the finish line.

We have organized a fundraiser with this intention. Please join us for the fundraiser on Nov 10th. Your support in any form is much needed and will be rewarded by Allah.
