Our new Kids Ministry Coordinator is in action at Common Table! From Chicago, IL, to Austin, TX and now RVA, we’re so grateful to have Kimmothy Cole here in Richmond on the Common Table team. They’re an intergenerational community builder and passionate advocate for early childhood education. Come meet Kimmothy in the Kids Ministry if you see them at the 11am service!

Kimmothy’s also been essential in the planning of our Summer Kick Off on May 31. Join us for a potluck lunch, games with prizes and good fun for the whole family at 11:15am.

P.s. Starting May 31, Common Table will move to hosting one service of worship at 10am.

Happy Easter from Common Table! Today we read about the power in Jesus’ resurrection in John 20:1-18.

A few words from Pastor Drew’s sermon today:
“What kind of power can move a stone from a tomb?

…Today, we are reminded that the tree bursts forth and the grassroots break through. Not just the supernatural but the natural will not be contained. There is a power in this world, alive and at work, alleluia! This resurrection power will break the most hardened heart. This power will bring down the walls between us. This power will not be stopped by injustice.”

Christ is risen! Alleluia!

Join us this Saturday, Mar. 28 from 1-3pm in the nationwide No Kings movement, a nonviolent witness advocating for democracy and resisting authoritarian government.

Before the event begins at 1pm, we'll gather at 12:45pm in front of the Pace Center at VCU to share in a brief time of spiritual preparation for faithful public witness in the way of Jesus. With ministry partners like the Rev. Jim Melson and Lan Davis Wilson, we'll join in prayer, singing, and encouraging words with church people from around Richmond.

Why this special time to prepare? In short, the Church has a lot of make-up work to do in terms of courageous faithful engagement these days, and we want to take that task seriously.

With the heavy news of the United States’ and Israel’s bombing of Iran, it can be hard to know how to feel. The UMC offers some grounding principles that can stand as a guide in these unstable times.

This Sunday, our scripture reading of the Last Supper exemplifies how we should act toward our neighbors as Jesus, King of kings, washes the feet of his disciples. Join us this Sunday to be grounded in prayer and community.

Maggie Lena Walker devoted her life and home to the civil rights movement. Walker served as an inspiration of pride and progress, working for economic empowerment and educational opportunities for Jim Crow-era African Americans and women. She was the first African American woman in the US to found a bank, as well as a newspaper editor and fraternal leader.

Maggie Walker’s Richmond home at 110 1/2 East Leigh St serves as a great reminder of the success of African American entrepreneurship. It’s preserved as a tribute to Walker’s enduring legacy of vision, courage and determination.
