In the Old Testament God met with Moses in the tent of meetings. This was a temporal place before the tabernalce was built. Outside there were skins hanging everywhere from the daily sacrifices. God said I want to meet here. There was nothing atttractive about the tent of meetings, covered with badger skins, and goat skins. When you walked through the door the first thing you saw was the Brazen altar, a dying place. No incense, no aroma, only the stench of burning flesh and of dripping blood into a pan. Here God put the pain up front. God didn't disguise the moment or method of payment as the priest walked through the door. The door was different than the walls. The walls, curtains, were blue for Grace, crimson for His redemptive power, and purple for the Majesty of God. In the New Testament, Christ is the new High Priest that entered once through the greater and more perfect tent, His own body. Good Friday marks the day when wrath and mercy met at the cross. That's why Good Friday is so dark and so good. OT or NT, God is brutally honest about breaking. Not a Crown. The Cross. This is where God meets you, at the Cross. It's where you begin, at the Cross. Jesus said if any man be my disciple let him take up his cross and follow me. Too often we want the crown when you begin at the Cross. Jesus went through the thorns to get His Crown. He was sacrificed, we were cleansed.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
