Schicks to Poland

Today is Red Sunday 2026 for the Schicks to Poland ministry team. We started these when we were still preparing to go to Poland. At the time we were facing difficulties but God gave us courage and confidence to face these challenges.
So, on Red Sundays we would wear something red to show defiance against Satan's attacks and in thankfulness to God for the opportunity to serve in Poland.
This month marks 12 years of service in Poland. The Lord has made clear to us that we should continue to serve here. Pray with us about this part of the Lord’s harvest field and that we will be faithful and effective with those who are “good soil” and receptive to God’s Word.

Great praise to God for victories. In the midst of opposition to our ministry God dropped an opportunity to observe one of our Gospel balls in action. The children at the camp and their counselors didn’t know what the ball meant so Leslie walked over and explained it. They were very receptive. Here in Poland (like many places) the Gospel is sometimes opposed but at the same time there are many doors still open to teach Jesus and his love. Additionally, the next day we experienced another great victory from a special counseling ministry where God’s Word broke through the darkness of brokenness to heal people. All praise to the Lamb who is still on the throne!

That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. For some, Memorial Day begins the season of expected warm weather including picnics celebrating many things: family, graduation, wedding and most of all our unity and joy in Christ. Our last picnic was the gathering of all the Baptist churches in the central region of Poland which includes the capital city of Warsaw near where we live. The day was filled with reminders of God's faithfulness in using our service to encourage the reach of the Gospel in Poland. The young lady in the picture represents our ongoing encouragement of both her and her multi-generational family who came to Poland from Ukraine to escape the effects of war. Thanks for all the birthday greetings. Last year I think we were in the middle of a move and settling into our new apartment; so I barely remember much. So this is what 62 looks like! 🙂 I appreciate the greetings from everywhere. The pastor from our new church drove over with his wife (50 minutes in an ice storm!) to fellowship around dinner and talk church membership and ministry at their church. What a great blessing it has been to get to know this dynamically healthy and growing ministry. 🙂 Leslie experimented with making a chocolate-cherry cake (aka Schwarzwald Torte) for my birthday. Unlike Elon Musk’s rocket tests, it did not blow up; but that was also a problem: it didn’t rise up very far either. So they will be eaten later and probably taste similar to her award-winning brownies. 🙂 She bought a pistachio tort from my favorite bakery (every bakery is my favorite) and adorned it with numerically re-calculated candles (candles are fire code restricted at my age). Blessings to all and safety in any winter travel.

Ever since coming to Poland I have been amazed and grateful for how much opportunity (freedom, prosperity and security) God has given Poland. My ancestors in the 19th and 20th Centuries struggled to attain a portion of what people in this region enjoy today. This freedom was the result of citizens of allied countries electing strong leaders like Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. It was because workers and church members supported L**h Walesa and Pope John Paul II. * But seems now, (since 2014) Europe is succumbing to accommodation and complacency regarding the enemies of free democracies. The leaders of Europe are unable to deter the aggression of nearby dictatorships. * The drone strike today is clear evidence that Europe and its allies are not willing to do what is needed to defend itself. Poland has bravely and effectively repelled immigration threats on its Belorussian border. But like all the other countries in Europe, it has done little else but pretend to prepare for a war it is unwilling to fight. * Yesterday I rode past one of the military installations near Grójec. The soldiers were training. Helicopters and military transports are regularly seen. But the spiritual and moral strength of our region is still missing. Please pray for the citizens of Poland, its military leaders and its neighbors, to elect and support better leaders who will stand strong and take action like the heroes of the past.
