Beth Ahabah Purim Carnival Dinner following services this past Friday evening proved to be a fun evening for all in attendance. Plenty of groggers, costumes, and carnival food! Thank you to all our volunteers who assisted in manning the food booths and keeping all the food lines moving.

In the spirit of Tikkun Olam (repair and improve the world) the Women of Beth Ahabah selected Little Hands Virginia to partner with. Founded in 2019, Little Hands is a Richmond based 501c3 nonprofit that provides essentials for young children (newborn to three years old) in Central Virginia. Ensuring economically disadvantaged children in Central Virginia have the essentials needed from birth to improve outcomes for life. In collaboration with the Weinstein JCC we hosted a diaper drive during the month of January and collected over 1000 diapers. We also collected $780.00 in monetary donations. This past Thursday morning five women delivered the diapers and presented them a check. While there we toured their warehouse and assisted in filling diaper bank orders for their various community partners including schools, food pantries, shelters, and CHoR ( Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU).

Our Congregational Hamantaschen Fest was a huge success. Thank you to all those who came out to participate in the making of their own creations of rolling, cutting, filling, and pinching of their hamantaschen . A Huge shout out to our dough preppers and dough weigher Laura, Icer, and Meryl . A total of 40 pounds of flour, 10 pounds of butter, 76 eggs along with vanilla and lemon extract made 80 10oz balls of dough! Let’s not forget the variety of fillings available. All our volunteers helped out in many capacities from preparing the hamantaschen for 24 boxes to be delivered to congregants who live in senior communities to assisting adults and children in the rolling and cutting to the pinching techniques. They too made their own creations.
Lunch was available for those coming directly from religious school. Everyone left either with a full take home container of their creations or possibly a full tummy and only a half full take home container! Wonderful memories made by all both in the baking and friendship process. See you next year for this annual congregational event. Chag Purim Sameach

Thank you to Robin Abbott from Jewish Family Services and Shawn Smith of Senior Medicare Patrol. Part of Robin’s role at JFS is to ensure individuals, families, and community organizations have an awareness of the vast services offered at JFS and how the services can enrich one’s life, family members, or even a friend’s and help each other’s overall wellbeing.
A slide presentation was shared by her.
Shawn’s slide presentation educated attendees on how scammers are using AI to defraud seniors and reviewed the best ways to prevent and detect these scams.

Joe's Inn Bon Air was the place to be last evening where we enjoyed an evening of socializing and enjoying delicious dishes ranging from appetizers to a variety of main dishes from eggplant, veal parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, vegetarian lasagna, spagetti dinner, pizza, and even a taco salad to a grilled Reuben sandwich. Yes, add the glasses of wine too and just about everyone went home with leftovers!
