We are thrilled to announce that Robyn Banks has accepted our offer to become the next director of communications at St. Stephen’s Church, beginning January 11, 2027. Robyn has served at Calvary Episcopal Church in Memphis since 2005, starting as executive assistant and then becoming director of communications in 2009. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas and spent several years doing post-graduate work in web development.

Robyn is well known as one of the leading communicators in Episcopal church circles, balancing skill and expertise in print and digital media with a passion for storytelling. She and our recently retired director of communications, Sarah Bartenstein, worked together through the Episcopal Communicators Network, where they often found themselves in competition for that group’s national awards. (Each has been successful.)

“We are so fortunate to have Robyn join us to build on and expand the wonderful foundation that Sarah established at St. Stephen’s,” says Rector John Rohrs. “Robyn is a top-notch communications professional. She is thoughtful, savvy, and faithful. Her fluency with digital media will be a particular asset as we continue to grow that aspect of our communications ministry. We can’t wait to welcome her to the team!”

Robyn and her delightful fifth-grader, Emma, plan to move to Richmond over the winter break, allowing Emma to finish the school semester in Memphis. Fortunately, Paula Chambers is willing and able to continue as the interim director of communications through the end of year. We are so grateful to Paula for her leadership and steady hand during this time of transition.

Robyn and Emma are looking forward to this new adventure. “After nearly 22 years of telling the story of Calvary Episcopal Church in Memphis, I am grateful and a little amazed to be starting a new chapter at St. Stephen’s,” Robyn said. “I believe communications at its best is a form of hospitality, helping people see what God is doing in a place and how they might be part of it. My daughter, Emma, and I can’t wait to settle into Richmond and get to know all of you and learn your stories.”
