On this All Saints Day, we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses! We feel their presence with us and give thanks to God for all the saints whose lives in many different ways and in many different times have given (and continue to give) glory to God! Alleluia!

All of us at TCB are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Gene A. Pierce. We are holding his family in the light of God's love. We mourn with them.

All of us at TCB are holding our brothers and sisters of Patterson Avenue Baptist Church in our thoughts and prayers as they worship together this morning. May the ending of this local expression of the church at a specific location be one of grace and peace. May the days ahead bring new opportunities to witness, work and worship to each member of the congregation as they go forth.

Dear Ones,
What we witnessed this past weekend in Virginia has again broken our hearts. We ask how can there be so much hatred within God's people, each one marvelously made in the image of love? Some have felt empowered by hate-filled words and the lack of accountability for all people to be given the dignity that must and should be theirs. But throughout this country's history a hatred called racism has never vanished, although we have wanted to think our better selves have not participated in the oppression of people of color (or of different faiths, or of different socioeconomic backgrounds or even of gender or sexual preference.) I pray a prayer of confession that in small ways, some unintentional, some through silence, and in large ways in alliance with society, many of us failed to love God and all of our brothers and sisters through our actions and words. Forgive us, O God. And help us move forward with open eyes to what you dream for us all.

Within our beloved community we are diverse and beautiful and I hope each one of you feels deeply loved, honored and respected. Call one another out when words or actions imply anything other!

I feel particularly sad that in many local expressions of the church nothing has been or will be said. I tend to be loud and you have always supported me in my stand for peace with justice, for working for change, and for taking the risks that God calls us to as we glimpse the already but not yet kingdom. You called a woman to minister alongside you as your pastor; you were and are open and affirming; you recognized God's call on the life of one whom others would deny ordination; you never flinched or asked questions of "worth" as we gave to the ones in need because you knew there was indeed some kind of hunger. In each act of love, we grow and are transformed. And God continues to call us to such tasks of reconciliation. We will stand together. We will speak up. It will not always be easy, but it will always be right. We will work together and invite our brothers and sisters into the light of God's love. We link arm in arm to be a healing place. Grace and peace, comfort and care; courage and strength for the days ahead.

Let it be said. Let it be heard. Let it be so:
"We shall follow the biblical call to social justice. We shall love our neighbors and welcome the stranger among us. We shall feed the hungry; tend to the health and well being of all men, women and children; shelter those in need of safe places to live; advocate for those whose voices are not being heard or those so marginalized that they have no voice. We shall be hopeful, ever mindful, always kind. We shall be the church."

Sunday, July 30, 2017: A Fifth Sunday of the month. We will follow our tradition of spending sabbath time with family and friends in ways that refresh our spirits and nourish our souls. Share a meal, take a walk, sleep in, read -- there are many ways to rest in God. There will be NO corporate worship in the morning at the church house. Join us for breakfast at The American Diner at 9:00 am for good food and lively conversation. We will end with prayers around the table. This is how some of us have chosen to renew and refresh on the Fifth Sunday -- food for our bodies and for our souls, nourishing us for the days ahead.

All of us at Trinity Church, Baptist are surrounding our brothers and sisters of Ginter Park Baptist Church with love today. Prayers for endings and beginnings; for who you are and who you are becoming. Grace and peace for this time of moving forward to worship, work and witness together in a new setting.

April 9, 2017: Join us at 10:30 a.m as we gather for corporate worship at the church house on Palm Sunday morning. One of the hymns we will be singing is “Let Our Earth Be Peaceful” by Shirley Erena Murray:

“Let our earth be peaceful,/ let our hearts be hopeful,/
let our hands be gentle/ for the love of God.

Let our ways be mindful,/ mending what is hurtful,/
doing what is needful/ for the love of God.

Let our lives be fruitful,/ beautiful and playful,/
ev’ry day be thankful/ for the love of God.”

We will always err on the side of safety and good health practices. Because of the high winds and storms moving in, we will gather for the beginning of our Lenten journey together tomorrow. Supper at Denny's begins at 6:30 pm. There will be no Ash Wednesday gathering today.
