A Message of Support and Solidarity Following Attacks on Israel:
We were devastated to wake up on Shabbat morning and the Shmini Atzeret/Simchat Torah holiday to the news of the horrific attacks on the Jewish homeland and the Israeli people. The news of this attack against innocent people is shocking and heartbreaking; our hearts and prayers are with all of the Israeli people and families who have been affected by this tragedy. We are thinking of our students and community members with family and friends in Israel, our alumni living there, and all those on campus who care so deeply for the safety of loved ones.
These events are difficult and the images are unsettling, and we want you to know that Jewish Life at UR, our Hillel Student Interns, and Chaplaincy staff are here for support. The Wilton Center Conference Room will be open from 3-5 p.m. today for students to stop by to debrief, talk to peers or simply be in a safe space with others experiencing similar feelings. If you need immediate support, please call or text Jewish Chaplain Josh Jeffreys, or reach out to the Chaplaincy or CAPS.
Wherever we stand on Israel, today we stand in solidarity with our siblings there in condemning the brutal Hamas attack, in offering our love and support to those who mourn, in hoping for the healing of those harmed, and praying for the safe return of those captured. Just as much, we continue to pray for peace for all of those who reside in Israel and Palestine, and those on campus and around the world who care deeply for the Land and the peoples who call it home. We hope you will join us in resisting the urge for violent or dehumanizing rhetoric, and instead choose words and actions that manifest healing, compassion and wholeness.
This is an evolving situation and as events continue to unfold, we will continue creating opportunities for understanding and education about this situation.
