Dear RENEW.org Network Leaders,

We've been going verse by verse through the Book of James over the past few month at Journey Christian Church. This section of chapter 5 is not an area that I necessarily would have developed a message around. But the Apostle James gives us such great wisdom in these passages that I think it's super helpful for us to talk about.

We don't follow Jesus because he makes our lives better. We follow Jesus because he's better than life!

On the night he won the mayoral election in New York City, Zohran Mamdani said:

"We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about."

This is the kind of thing Christians rightly say about God.

We live in a culture of constant novelty—always seeking the next thing, the new insight, the fresh perspective. But spiritual growth often works differently. Sometimes the most powerful Bible study isn't reading something new, but reading something familiar again and again. When we camp out in a single book or passage for days or even weeks, reading it repeatedly, something remarkable happens.

On day three, we notice details we missed initially. By day fifteen, connections emerge we hadn't seen. At day twenty-five, the words have worked their way deep into our hearts, shaping how we think and live. Repetition isn't boring—it's transformative. Like water gradually wearing smooth a rough stone, repeatedly reading God's Word smooths our rough edges and shapes us into the people he's calling us to be. Consider choosing one short book of the Bible and committing to read it daily for the next month.
