Sometimes even the stories we know the most, still have something valuable to teach us.

This Sunday, we listened to scripture and dramatic readings from different perspectives. We listened with curiosity, stopping to notice what we may have overlooked, and we considered what happens when our traditions and expectations stand in the way of our human wholeness.

God calls us to more than simply understanding what love is, but to embody it wholeheartedly.

As you go through your week, ask yourself:

Am I living for the law or for love?

This past Sunday, we celebrated the Blessing of the Backpacks, where we surrounded our students, educators, and those who work in the school environment with love and prayer as they begin a new school year.

We gave out bag tags with “Be Kind” written upon them, they will be attached to backpacks, school bags, and work bags that will travel with us each and every day.

They will go on to serve as a reminder that God goes with us wherever we go.

We prayed for a year filled with wonder and curiosity, for the courage to explore something new, to create, read, write, collaborate, ask questions, and grow in deeper understanding.

As the new school year begins, we carry this blessing with us:

May we be filled with wonder, for God has already made us wonderful.

What if the story you’ve been telling isn’t the whole story?

This past Sunday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Rev. Dr. Amy Butler to the pulpit!

Through the story of Sarah, Amy invited us to think about the stories we tell about ourselves, about one another, and about our faith.

Sometimes, the story we’ve always heard isn’t the whole story.

What might change when we listen from another perspective, make room for voices we haven’t heard, and remain open to the new possibilities God is still creating?
