We're still celebrating our CBFVA graduates over here! Let's learn more about Victoria Fitzgerald in her words:

What is one piece of encouragement you would offer to someone discerning a call to ministry?
Seek! Wise! Counsel! There are so many career paths that may try to sell you on the value of independence as a way of life, but those voices don't speak aptly to the depth of joy and enrichment that comes with chasing after the heart of God with a broad community alongside you in ministry. There's no need to try to "go it alone" here! Reach across race, denomination, gender, ability, and more to broaden your sense of just how deep and wide God's love really is, then lead from what you find!

Where do you sense God leading you next?
I sense that Spirit has offered me a gentle call to one next step at a time, starting with taking a summer unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at VCU, then to ordination through Williamsburg Baptist Church. I welcome you to join me in praying for the proverbial "flashlight" of God's plan to continue to show me each next step as it comes.

What was your go-to coffee shop order during seminary?
LARGE brown sugar cinnamon latte with oat milk!

Take a moment and celebrate Victoria in the comments!

This week we are celebrating our CBFVA seminary graduates. Dorian Medeiros is a graduate of , and has this to share:

What first led you to seminary?ďż˝
What first led me to seminary was a transition in my role at church. My title changed from Children’s Director over the weekday school to Children’s Pastor, which also included leadership of the children’s ministry. As that shift happened, I felt a need to grow deeper in my understanding of ministry, theology, and pastoral care. I originally requested to attend seminary and planned to complete only a three course certificate. What began as a small educational step unexpectedly became a journey toward completing my master’s degree.

What is one lesson or experience from seminary that will stay with you?ďż˝
The realization that we are all still learning. Ministry is not about having all the answers or presenting ourselves as people who have figured everything out. In fact, trying to have all the answers can limit our sense of wonder about God. Seminary taught me that faith often grows most deeply through curiosity, humility, and conversation. That experience reminded me that God is far bigger than our understanding and that there is beauty in continuing to learn throughout our lives and ministries.

Where do you sense God leading you next?ďż˝
I sense God leading me toward providing deeper pastoral care, regardless of the context in which that happens. Throughout seminary, I have become increasingly aware of how much people long to feel seen, heard, and cared for in authentic ways. Whether in ministry with children, families, students, or adults, I feel drawn toward walking alongside people during moments of grief, uncertainty, healing, and growth. I do not know exactly what that will look like in the future, but I do know that God continues to call me toward compassion, presence, and listening. More than anything, I hope to be someone who reflects the love of Christ by creating spaces where people know they are valued, supported, and deeply loved by God.What snack fueled you through late night studying?White cheddar popcorn will always be my guilty pleasure but in the last month of capstone rewrites, a deeper appreciation for blue sweet tarts came into being. But, they must be the blue!

This week we are celebrating our CBFVA seminary graduates! Becky Owen has graduated from this month, and shares some more of her experience here:

What is a small moment from seminary that still makes you laugh?
Every time either one of my cats would just up on my desk so I would pay attention to them.

What is one lesson or experience from seminary that will stay with you?
That I am more capable than I think I am.

If you could describe your seminary journey in three words, what would they be?
Reading, growth, confidence

This week we are celebrating our graduates! Let's learn some more about John Nganga, who has graduated from this month!

What first led you to seminary?
Actually, I was looking forward to being involved in a Psychology grad program to research transitions from youth to adulthood. However, before I had fully committed to it, the associate senior pastor of my local church reached out to me about a possible opportunity. When I got into his office, he gave me a pamphlet of a seminary school and suggested that I should consider applying. I was resistant at first, but when I looked through the course outline, it ended up being what I was exactly looking for. In this instance, I did not find seminary, but seminary found me.

What is one lesson or experience from seminary that will stay with you?
"There are two great days in a person's life - the day we are born and the day we discover why" by William Barclay. This quote has stuck with me because of the contrast of knowing when we arrive at the second greatest day. It will continue to be a discovery, yet a mystery to what that is. I believe that God becomes central to teaching us our "why" in life. This is one of the many lessons I hang on to because it gives me hope that "I" alongside others have a purpose/s in life.

If you could describe your seminary journey in three words, what would they be?
Enriching, reflective and foundational

Take a moment and congratulate John in the comments!
